I mentioned seminars and panels before and think they are a great idea. We do not have to have "celebs" to have good panels--just subjects that interest gamers (like war gaming related , role playing related (like gming-world creation- etc) , getting games published, humor in games, the trials and tribulations of the female gamer, intro to fill in the blank, live action related (costumes, makeup, personas, worlds), collectable related (magic deck builkding help, collecting, etc), Miniature related (painting, converting, etc).
I fully support anything that "educates" as well as is another added attraction to the convention that is not just gaming.

Subject: [Deptheads] A brief thought on panels and seminars
I had this conversation with my friend Ryan Macklin today (who is
going to be attending OrcCon).
SevenRev (4:49:08 PM): Are you going to do any sort of podcaster thing
at...is it Gamex?
SevenRev (4:49:12 PM): Orccon
paultevis (4:52:39 PM): OrcCon. I don't know. We've got you, me, Eric Burgess.
paultevis (4:53:04 PM): He does Boardgame Babylon.
SevenRev (4:50:03 PM): *nod*
SevenRev (4:50:46 PM): Well, I'm available if you want to tap me for
either a podcaster or design thing.
paultevis (4:54:15 PM): We're not a big panel con. Yet.
SevenRev (4:51:16 PM): *nod*
SevenRev (4:51:28 PM): You know how to become a big panel con, right?
SevenRev (4:51:34 PM): Small panels that people talk about.
paultevis (4:54:44 PM): Yep.
And he's right. We don't have a strong tradition of seminars and
panels (certainly not ones that are tremendously well-attended), but
the right way to start one is by doing one or two focused, "can't
lose"-type ones. The Knizia panel last February is a great example.
I'd like to see that sort of thing continue.
