[Deptheads] Game pre-registration limits

Less stress is good and you guys in rpg do a fantastic job. Thumbs up.
I apologize if prereg limit issue has been resolved before.  I am just going by what is on our website just like attendees.
It is not a knock on people planning their weekend by pre-registering. Good plan but even so an event may fill up before you get to signing up for it. No guarantees even with pre-reg (just better odds). Erik A. just answered and echoed what is on our the website--Events cannot fill up from pre-registration. I have been asked this at every con from walk-ins.
If there are exceptions or different rules for the different departments that work better for them that is cool...but it needs to be on the website on the "What You Should Know about preregistration" page.
Now, back to the parking dilemna......where stress has found a new home

I know people who show up at the con now precisely because we do have an active and functional pre-reg system.  I’ve heard many people loving the fact that they can plan out their weekend by pre-reging.

The sign-up line for rpg events hasn’t existed since I decided to put out in the morning sign-up sheets for that entire day.  That was nearly 2 years ago.  I think we’re MUCH more walk-in friendly for that dept than we used to be with the ridiculous line-ups that started one hour before the event, at the same time the previous slot event was finishing.  Now there’s much less stress involved and people love it.

Anyway, this is a dead horse and I’m tired of beating it.  I’m not sure why this was brought up again because we’ve gone over this already.

This was not an example but an actual person. Susan figured the pre-reg was limited to 2/3 as Erik just stated and the website stated. She, her husband and tween are now deciding to come or not since events she wanted to play in are full from pre-reg and parking is gonna suck. We have pre-reg money and committment, we don't have the walk-ins. And parking is not gonna help.

Pre-registering for the convention is before event pre-registration is open (so anyone wanting to pre-register to get into an event has already paid).

Also...anyone pre-registering can see that it states they will not be "approved" for pre-registration beyond 2/3.  It states it.

I know several people that show up to the con and get in line to get the last slots for rpg events. The rpg sign-up line early saturday morning was a common site. A sight to behold.

Anyways... the pre-reg question applied to all depts. since any small event, of any type, could fill up with pre-reg if allowed. A double-edged sword.

Well, the converse of this is Susan seeing that she can’t pre-reg for the events she wants and therefore never bothers to show up because it’s unlikely she’ll get into the game.  People love programming their con weekend entertainment.

And, while I understand “majority of con-attendees are walk-ins”, I know the rpg department well enough to say that may not necessarily be the case for us.

Are there official rules for pre-reg allowance in games? Basically if an event has 5 slots ,can 5 people pre-register for it and be approved and thus allowing for no sign up at the convention? I have been asked this about collectable, miniature and  role playing events.

The site states this:

You will not be able to preregister for any events that list as "Prereg Full". This means the event has reached 2/3 of capacity rounded down. e.g. 3/5, 4/6.
This is read by many people as meaning that you should not be approved as a pre-reg past the limit even if you are allowed to pre-reg because system allows.
So Susan was deciding to come to strategicon despite the parking but noticed that 3 of the roleplaying event she wanted to play in were full. So no reason to come to the convention and get in line to grab a slot in at least one of the 2 events when pre-regs were allowed to fill the events. (She figured 4 of 6 players allowed to pre-reg, and 2 slots would be left for on-site sign-up).

I played with the system and it will allow pre-regs over 2/3 and even allow pre-reg over limit of game. You can sign up as player 9 in an 8 player game.
I just do not approve of players past the 2/3 capacity for the event.
Parking is already having an effect on day attendees and full events will add to discouraging people to come. I feel no event should be full from pre-reg. Otherwis we have a handful of pre-regers filling up many destination events. Since majority of con-attendees are walks-ins it is important to make sure all events are not full before convention even starts; especially when it implies it limits  2/3 to pre-reg (system allows unilmited pre-reg until players are approved- it does not disallow on it's own- approver has to disapprove of players beyond limit which is no fun).
