I was recently told that GAMA had changed its policy regarding
companies attending its shows to include a requirement that all
companies must now be GAMA members.  (This used to be the policy in
the past but had been abandoned some years ago as being
counterproductive and not good for marketing and growth.)  That's
probably why it became a problem this year but had not been a problem
in the years you organized the booth swap.
