[Deptheads] Re: Computer Room Tourneys

Many conventions have a teen lounge (as I mentioned last august) .
You stick a tv in one corner for viewing movies, guitar hero and rock band (so you can have 4 players at once including the drummer) going from open
til close in the middle, and multiplayer tourneys (like halo 3 or wii head-to-head competitons in an elimination tourney) on side.
Guitar hero and rock band will always draw con goers that are bored, in between games, etc. They do not require any real time commitment. Just try a song, and leave.
There will alway be someone playing guitar hero during the con. Both guitar hero and halo 3 are solid draws.

Even if my talks go well with companies (we get blizzard or ncsoft to attend) I still think we should keep a lounge area for people to hang in, play video games, relax, etc.
The video games are a bonus to our con goers--A game company running a room is a draw that attracts new people that do not come to strategicons. Both enhance the con.

Janice, this is GREAT news!

Guitar Hero and Halo will be solid draws.

How many people can play at a time? Do we know the size of TVs? I do not know Guitar Hero very well - does it do split screen well? I know Halo does 2 players well and 4 player okay.

Is it Halo 1, 2 or 3? Xbox or 360?

I suggest some sort of announcement banner / board with advance notice so people know how / when the tourneys will run.

Please keep track of the numbers for the GH and Halo events. It will be very interesting to see what level of attention those events get. If possible, keep a gender / approximate age count as well. Knowing the appeal toward females and the appeal of teen vs. college age vs. adult vs. geezer will be useful. IF Blizzard does not come, such information will be extremely useful in determining how we evolve the computer room in the future.

So far we have Guitar Hero, Halo, and Rogue. They're all listed in the Events schedule available on the convention Web site:
