Anyon can make an argument for moving the convention closer towards their gaming area (except me, janice and eric A)
Let's move it closer to phoenix or vegas since those gamers do not seem to have a problem with driving distance and show up in force each convention.
Also note that busy gaming at local stores does not equate to those people showing up to the convention even if it was across the streeet from their home.
Many gamers coast to coast can not or will not afford the cost to go to a convention....and some just like their local atmosphere and not tourneys or random competition.
Conventions aren't for everyone. Every star wars fan is not at a local star wars convention. Not everyone likes competitve gaming, one-shot rpgs, dealing with strangers, and there are those that do not like crowds. There are people in my old game group there that lived 10 minutes away from con site, and their expenses would be handled yet they still would not come because they only game within their circle.
There are people that will always state they do not attend a convention because it is too far away, You can move it close and they would have another excuse.
Research before you change. See who is attending local game days and events. See who we would lose by changing. I do not want to lose the vegas or arizona people or make it worse on them. They already support the con thru thick and thin (even tho it is not local to them). San diego area also had a good representation.
Janice is also correct on LAX. That is a great location for flying in for guest and game companies and ease of transit back and forth from flights to convention hotel.
The more a convention offers the more gamers will attend. Offer guest and things they cannot see or get at a games day.
People will drive to a great convention, even out of state as we witness each con. I have no "stake" in the convention moving (except airport accessability back and forth to con) so I will concentrate on improving the convention as it is (especially since it will not move for 2 years).
5 hour flight to philly then stuck in philly 8 hours just to make a 43 minute flight to new hamphsire then drove in light slow for 2 hours home.
Nomatter where the con is it will be warmer in feb than here....and no snow and ice. hehe

Maybe we should add a History link to the Web site and talk about the
history of each convention and list years and locations ....
