I agree that San Jose is a great location. Near the big ballroom,
registration, exhibitor room, prize payout, flea market, and is large enough
for most departments to do something valuable in (no going up or down the
weird elevators). Back when it was the computer room, with all the
curtains drawn and just trying to peak in the dark door, I had no idea how
big that room really was. We measured it at 25 by 60 when we were doing
"dots" with Steve Jackson, but I'm not sure that it isn't actually bigger
due to inadequate measuring devices. AND when the curtains are open and
people can see inside with lots of natural light, it show showcases "eye
candy" games to people in the foyer and coming up and down those stairs. We
had more people coming in to find out about, and play Steve's "Pirate" game,
just because of this.
It seems to me, Boardgaming and RPG's are the largest draws for the
convention currently (those events bring in and support the most number of
people,even with crossover).
Paul T's department seems to be the one most suffering for space based on
that. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I don't really see boardgaming events running up and down, the already
congested elevators, to the penthouse, with their flags for tournaments. I
can just see people showing up late for their events because 3 elevators
went by full. This happened to people just trying to get to their rooms.
We know the tables in San Jose can be reconfigured, daily if needed, for
many different events, by the hotel staff as needed. They were VERY
accommodating with our various set-ups over the weekend.
