Agreed. Personally, I think this idea is DOA unless it is completely free,
doesn't take up much space and requires virtually no effort. Even then, it
will add zero to the attendees numbers (except, perhaps, the author's
families) and might amuse a very small portion of attendees at best.
As someone who worked in the book industry for many years and hosted
hundreds of author visits (including dozens at sci-fi cons), it is rare that
you can get people to really come out for these kind of guys. Only really
big names will draw people and for those folks, we are competing with the
local sci-fi cons and stores. There are a ton of other opportunities to see
these people if you want to do so.
