Definitely. The primary goal of the Special Projects Team is still to
have events that are "eye candy" and/or cannot be done anywhere else but the
Strategicon conventions. As I see it, we will still be handling it at
Orccon and hopefully be able to hand it off after that and concentrate on some
other events we want to do.

John is supervising the demos, because no one else stepped up to run them.
He and his gaming group jumped in to deal with it (Kudos) during the
feedback discussion at Gamex '09. A participant suggested miniatures offer
what boardgames does in the way of a bootcamp. That was the genesis of what
was run at Gateway and will be refined at Orccon. John and his folks are
looking to hand the demos over to miniatures as soon as things are in better
shape.

I also do not see Miniature bootcamp as something that should ever be a
separate department within the Strategicon organization, just as I don’t see
boardgame bootcamp being separate from the Boardgame department, nor the
Paint and take being separate from the Miniature Department. Any movement
toward this direction either means that the Miniature department isn’t doing
its job and its department heads need replaced, or this is another
artificial division of territories that is tearing the management of Strategicon
gaming conventions apart, and I have to admit this isn’t something that I
thought we were here to do: “feed our egos”. Our job as department heads to
to pull together as a team and produce a great event. I am questioning
myself about this vision as I participate in our board discussions and as I
work to schedule events and GMs to build a better convention.
