[Deptheads] Get events up ASAP!

We're only going to have "eye-catching" events in the foyer, so things like the Cribbage and such will be in their regular areas. Circus maximus would be a foyer event, a 3d D&D event, anything like that. I'm not sure what space games Greg and Paul like, going to leave it to them, but it will be something not already scheduled.

Part of that makes sense to me. Circus Maximus with a big setup that is eye-catching. Very cool. Anything else like that - awesome.
Cribbage? I know your team likes cribbage - I saw they were a big part of the small turnout at Orccon. I don't see this going into the foyer. If you want to request that they be run (or the complex space games - are we talking Merchant of Venus, Freedom in the Galaxy, Starfleet Battles?), just send a list here. Neil can get them on the schedule and if one of your guys want to run them, more's the better. I don't see why they would be run under the banner of Special Projects and be placed outside the regular board games area.

Oh, I definitely agree on your points here. I brought in 2 LARP specialists last convention to get the lay of the place and get ready for possibly doing some in 2011 (they have new baby...can't do it right now). We are looking at Boardgames because I actually left open the Sunday noon timeframe so we could get in the Cribbage tournament, and there was none. So we will do the Cribbage tournament and a couple of my guys like the complex space games that are out, and I think they want to do one of those. We are also kicking around bringing back the Mega-Colliseum Circus Maximus event.
There are some events we were going to do but have backed off of since others have started them, such as an on-going Formula De event and the Battletech Mega-Arena, both now being done by someone else.

I can see where Gayle is coming from here. Board Games hardly needs help at the moment, especially with the revitalization we've just had with Neil's hard work as our Events Manager. We just had more events than ever before, a huge turnout for the Settlers and TTR events and the two special guests at Gateway 2010 are board game focused.
As much as you all know I like to get resources for Board Games, if the purpose of Special Events is to ignite some interest in departments that could use a boost, perhaps now is the time to focus on LARPS and Collectibles instead of Board Games.

Special projects was never meant to be just miniatures or anything in particular. When originally planned with Eric in 2007, Special Projects was going to be a group that ran large and special events in all departments. Our job is to fill gaps and run events that you can't do at home, things that will be associated with the convention. We will be running events in all genre of games, and we will be getting back into boardgames and RPGs this convention. We were doing both before we were needed to help out in the Miniatures area, and now that Miniatures is back on it's feet and growing, we are going forward with our original plans. During 2011 we will probably be running LARPS and Collectibles as well.

We aren't scheduling demos, we are scheduling tournaments and events.

We are finalizing our schedule now and should have it up soon. We will be running some RPGs, Boardgames, maybe a LARP, as well as miniatures this time around.

I see we already have some events up -- this is good. We need more.
We're going to possibly have local competition this time and we need
to hit the ground running.
