Always funny to see others perception of the miniature games. The
Warmachine players (who this convention is wrapping around) and the
Warhammer players (who play whfb and wh40k) would be horrified to be cross
identified. Rather like calling bridge and Euker the same card game, or
Magic and Yugio the same. :)
I expect that Socal GW league will run some good Gamesworkshop Rogue trader
tournaments at our convention, so we won't lose them, but it will definitely
hurt us on the WM/Hordes group, but we haven't had a great turnout from that
group for a few years now, since every store and its mother offered the same
events that we were able to offer at the convention.
It does require a unique event to bring out the miniature players, such as
HGMS did this past con with their Boxer Rebellion display and event. We
definitely need more events such as that. One problem with miniature
tournaments is that they take such a long time that many of the players do
not want to play them, but would rather participate in a larger selection of
one-up games. They want to sample whats out there, expecially miniature
games that they don't get a taste of at their Local gaming store, due to
failure to reach critical mass at the store.
