[Deptheads] SoCal Smackdown (Was: Get games up ASAP!)

Umm, so THAT site is supposedly so great?? Not convinced here.

Instead of worrying about how "purdy" our site is, we need to concentrate on substance and attendance for Gateway.

Not to sound paranoid, but this effort is an attack on our conventions (plural). We need to think of both defense and counter-attack.

Defense, in working to preserve as much attendance as possible; maintaining the loyalty, attention and goodwill of everyone who's been attending. This also means working to continue growth among completely new attendees. We need to make sure we do not take a financial bath this con, which is likely the goal of the [deleted]s who started this thing.

Counter-attack. We need to scramble for every gamer we can who might consider going to the Bloodthirst, er, Brookhurst Con. This would mean two partially overlapping groups: miniature gamers and Orange-County-and-south general gamers. We need to strip off every attendee we can from their potential "gate." The organizers of this are store owners, right? They will be more focused on quick returns much more than our investment group, who already have, and will continue to show saintly patience when it comes to return on their investments.

Some ideas and questions:
1) Should we do a one-time price reduction for one-days? We are likely to have a number of lookie-loo's hitting both cons. This might help to reduce attendance loss. We want to maintain and strengthen "brand loyalty," obviously.

2) Consider a ZIP Code sorted mini-mailer, ASAP to O.C. and south and east addresses?

3) Politically, where we can, we need to echo some of the comments I saw on the miniature page, that expressed sadness that the California gaming community is not working together.

4) We STILL need to communicate that we are a new ownership and volunteer team. People are STILL whining and invoking Rocky's name!!

5) Work to get miniature dealers in/back. That seems to be a big complaint amongst the "Strategicon hates us" crowd. Of course, there is a chicken-and-the-egg dilemma of whether miniature gaming dealers feel we have enough gamers in attendance to make attending worthwhile...

Well, I'm getting sleepy. I wanted to add my two cents.

Eric N.

I'm open to suggestions on how to improve the design and layout of our site.

What colors were you thinking of and for where?

Aside from flash, what do you like about their site?

As for flash, I'm willing to add any approved flash item. I, however, don't generate flash. Also, a non-flash image conveying any important data of the flash item will be needed.

The SoCal Smackdown site is up and...honestly...it's nicer looking than ours. Flash and a more attractive color scheme (I still say our colors alone make us look very web circa 1995).

Also, their comments are very antagonistic.
