I completely and totally agree about our PUBLIC stance. I would also suggest that in publicity and public statements, that we generally ignore them. The last thing we need to do is help publicize them by talking about them!
That being said, INTERNALLY we need to be on a war footing. Their scheduling against us is an undisguised declaration of war. No matter how diplomatic we were/are/want to be/want to look, we do not want to "lose" or let their aggression and animosity pay off.
As far as the segment of gamers out there with wildly deluded expectations of what a game convention is capable of being, we can only do our best for the widest segment of gamers, and hope they come to their senses. Not much else can be done.
Regarding "merging": that is likely their plan all along, in a backhanded way. Force us to concede Labor Day weekend to them; give up. Of course, then, in a year or two - surprise! - it's their President's Day con and then their Memorial Day con.
"Never give in — never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." - Winston Churchill

I would suggest that our response to their confrontational tone should be
ne of reconciliation. They are selling this Convention based on the
egatives that Strategicon carries over from the past management. In my
pinion, some of those are deserved and most of them are based on people
ot understanding how difficult running a convention with mostly volunteer
abor is. Some people pay $40 for a four day event and expect $72 dollar per
ay Disneyland level service, and even Disneyland has people who hate it.
Since their tone is confrontational, a confrontational response from us will
ust play into their hand. I would like to merge their future into ours, or
t least get them set up on another weekend. I don't know if it's possible,
iven their attitude, but it would work better than having two groups
ighting over scraps while Blizzard Con is selling out 15,000 seats at the
naheim Convention Center in 40 minutes at $125 a ticket.
