Regarding MIBs (and speaking as a MIB):
1. We can not discriminate against a MIB for running events outside of
Strategicon, no matter what the venue is. It is there "job" to demo and
promote Steve Jackson Games wherever they can, and at as many venues as they
can. We need to create a better environment for them to demo at than SoCal
Smakdown. I don't think SJG would ever consider an "exclusive" agreement
where MIB are only demoing games at specific venues and not others; that
goes counter to everything I know about the program.
2. It's my opinion that the MIB program is very important to SJG, and the
volunteer organization has considerable influence with Steve and the company
overall. The MIBs are VERY well compensated for their work. The program is
VERY well organized by SJG. I've never seen so many publisher resources
given to a demo team program in the industry, as I have with the MIB
program. SJG tracks how much work any given MIB has done over their
"lifetime", and this is considered when evaluating an individual's
importance within the program. Some MIBs will have more of Steve's ear.
Don't underestimate the influence some MIB may have. That having been said,
MIBs are definately NOT SJG employees, of course.
3. My understanding is that Robert Andrusko is the Convention Liason for
Strategicon Conventions (taking over the position from me). The Convention
Liason is the single point of contact for Strategicon with regards to the
MIB presence. There should be only one point of contact, and all convention
activities should be coordinated through the Liason. That doesn't mean we
can't communicate with individual MIBs where appropriate, or that Robert
can't delegate responsibility, but Robert should be the convention's
one-stop-shop for all MIB issues.
