I don't think snarky was the intention but running a large software
production department where inquiries come in from all over our corporation
does make me note when recent information has been posted if a second
request comes through (it is standard for my team of 60 to do so). I realize
not everyone archives all the data from these mailing list posts but they
are also available on the Yahoo site if you sign in.
The last show was challenging with the guests but that came from a variety
of reasons:
1) There were more than the VIP team has had to handle because other staff
were inviting guests without really discussing how many we could handle and
what their needs are. I totally agree with the whole 'the more, the merrier'
but I also think that if we're going to end up with three plus GOHs and SGs,
we should let the individual departments handle their guests.
2) The VIP team was not given warning about their specific responsibilities.
3) Heather and Devi were not going to help out because of a prior commitment
and only came back to help late in the game when their plans changed. Even
then, they had some personal issues come up late in the game that made it
challenging for them to help us out. They still showed up and did a good job
even with no real information on what they needed to do for Rodger and
Justin. They have now bowed out and don't expect to be back as Staff VIP
folks. They have been a huge help to the convention since 2007 and I think
we should all thank them for their commitment.
You don't have contact information for Stephanie because she just agreed to
help out here after I got definite word from Heather and Devi that they will
not be working Gamex. Jeff Siadek received e-mail from both me and from
Stephanie prior to your e-mail. Is that a recent conversation you had with
him? We've asked him about his needs and what he would expect. Stephanie's
also offered to meet up with him prior to the convention. She's doing her
best to help us out and as a new volunteer (for this post), we appreciate
your patience.
Although I think Gamex with just Jeff should be okay, I do think if we are
going to expand the number of guests signifcantly, we'll need to define the
specifics of what we provide to GOHs and SG, have individual departments
sponsoring the guest write up their schedule and the VIP department can help
print a schedule but leave it to the sponsoring department to ensure the
guest shows up to their events. Hopefully, we can discuss this at the
meeting next week.
