This could also work on Facebook, I.e. Post a comment on the OrcCon FB page telling people to reply with "OrcCon rocks!" by a certain date, for a chance to win [$5 dealer dollars or whatever].
We randomly pick 5 winners. For the cost of a few dealer dollars we get promotion plastered all over the FB pages of all their friends.

This will involve giving some folks free entry if they win, but it could be worth the cost for the exposure gained.
Quick rundown out a Tweetup could possibly entail for zero or minimal cost:
- Announce to followers on Twitter/Facebook (perhaps even in stores) that Strategicon is having it's first ever Tweetup
- Figure out how many winners there will be - some Tweetups have 150 winners, others have 5 -10.
- Winners receive something like a one day pass or a full con pass
- Interested parties must be following Strategicon on Twitter to win
- Interested parties register by emailing someone on Strategicon's end - or if you want to get fancy, get a free event registration site
- Strategicon randomly picks winners
- Strategion asks winners to submit a gaming bio
- Winner's twitter handles and Gaming bios are tweeted out
- Day of Tweetup, all winners gather at registration, are treated to a tour, encouraged to take pictures and sharing their experience via Twitter
- Perhaps they can have a special autograph and/or gaming session with the guest of honor, perhaps they get priority seating at game, perhaps they get a free t-shirt, perhaps they all play one game together, perhaps they get front row at a one of the shows, perhaps they can meet event managers (folks behind the scenes)
- Take a group picture and post on website
etc. etc. etc.
I know someone from the LA Times who might be interested in this sort of thing, and many non-gaming types who've attended other local tweetups.

I believe Kryssie has the right idea. Content is key. Lots and lots of content from one unified channel.

You make excellent points.
I Support your "single tweet every 2 hours" compromise as I do not see the benefit of making a seperate "strategicon tourney winners" account since it would run into the same spamming issues with floods of tweets where most people would not want to sift thru tons of content just to get to stuff that is interesting to them. Those that want to can click on it for the full post on facebook (as you suggested).

I have to disagree on the flood of tweets for our regular Twitter account. Anyone who regularly uses Twitter knows that your stream can get impossible to read when someone is spamming with that much content that isn't all that interesting to you. Although tourney winners are interesting to some, the bulkload will see it as kind of annoying if we put everything in there. Sure, the volume increases during the convention but if we did every event, even I'd want to stop following the account. I predict we'd drop a few dozen to possibly more than a hundred followers with that strategy. The chance of diluting the brand is unlikely - that would suggest people only subscribe to one or the other. All of our Strategicon Library followers are also followers of the regular account. They just expect the library account to only be active during the convention. The same could be done with the Strategicon Tourneys account or whatever. Every new one is another opportunity for followers and then they can follow multiple accounts. This is a very common marketing strategy in social media because it costs a user nothing to add another account to follow. We could hit the regular account with big deal items (calls for players in a major event, announcements for special events, awards ceremonies, dealer room specials, flea market opening, etc.) Those important messages will be lost with hundreds of tourney results.
A reasonable compromise is to simply post a single tweet on the Facebook account (which hits Twitter, too) every two hours that'll hit Twitter. They can then click on it if they want to see the full post on Facebook with all the results from the last two hours.
By the way, I don't disagree on the page versus person side on the Facebook account - I'll have to just sort out the conversion so we don't lose the nearly 1,000 friends we have when converting them to likes. Studies show we will lose some visibility based on standard configuration changes by changing but it's the proper use of the account. Totally agree there and we'll do it.
We don't need another computer - we have the library laptop from which we can post to multiple accounts. I think Hootsuite is available on a Mac so we can schedule the tweets, too.

And it won't be overkill since most fans like seeing tourney winners and only multiple-day tourneys would post pairings on twitter (others pair quickly, on the spot, and no need to go type them in after they began,,serves no purpose).
Plus posting tourney results means more people will become followers to see their names as winners. People like ribbons, like seeing their names in conbook, and they like seeing their names as winners online.
These ideas to better use social networking are great.

I disagree on setting up another account for this. It's what the twitter account is for. People should be expecting us to tweet 600 times during an event. If they're *that* upset over it, then they don't actually use Twitter. It will dilute the brand if you keep adding other accounts for this or that.
I really believe we should have a Fan Page (not a profile) on Facebook. The Facebook page and Twitter account can be linked together so that when you update one, it updates the other. Fan Pages are also a bit more versatile than profiles and profiles are limited to the number of "friends" you can have. Page likes are either unlimited or so high not even the most popular pages can't hit the cap.
