I think it is a great idea and we should support debuting the movie at our con 100%.
It would be good publicity for Strategicon. Anything debuting at our convention brings more attention to our convention, has another source advertising our convention, and that helps our brand with advertisers, guests and game companies.
However; we should not open the can of worms of letting groups collect a viewing fee for showing their movie at our convention. Pay-to-view has come up before. Show it for free and they get advertising in the conbook and linked on our site.
Plus the film is better off not charging and having a packed theatre that generates more buzz for it.....and we benefit greatly by adding another free non-gaming special event perk for our attendees.
Thumbs up.

This movie is just about complete and I know the director a bit. What do we think about offering her the chance to debut the movie at Orccon? I know she's wanted to charge for it and we already have the Settlers event at the show. Can we do a second 'ticketed' event in our system? It would be good publicity in the board game community and possible the film community, as some distributors might catch it at our show (for which I'd advocate an option to charge non-con attendees to go to just the film - maybe $5 for attendees, $10 for non-attendees). What do you think?
