[Deptheads] Eric's post got some great results

If you like Bill, we can also include my events with historical backgrounds (General Quarters, etc.). I am specifically planning a double-blind, historically accurate to the aircraft available on each ship, Midway battle in September. (We decided to save that for September when we believe HMGS presence will be strongest.) Up to you, but I was thinking integrating non-HMGS events into the fold might help avoid any feelings of "us" and "them" that has plagued us in the past.

John

Harmon this is Francisco enterprises who I got to donate prizes for the combined HMGS / Strategicon convention. I believe this should be handled by HMGS/PSW since we are handling the Historical side of the miniatures area and also initiated the contact in the first place. We should get the commitment and handle the award of figures. Last time we did it as a monetary gift certificate so that the winner could order figures that were appropriate for him/her. The winners last time were Tim Daun for the "Shanghi 1937" game and John Denny for the "Stalag 9" game. both were $75 in painting credit. If he is willing to honor the commitment for the last con (Orrcon) then it should go to Dave Maupin for his "Antitiem" game. However I think it might be better to just hold this for the regular HMGS/PSW con where we will have normal awards in place.

This does bring up a point though that has been rolling around in my head for a bit. Since our efforts to bring miniatures back to the Strategicon venues appears to be working very well (kudos to all the HMGS/PSW GM's and to all the Strategicon people who made it happen) we need to ramp it up a bit while thing are hot. Perhaps it is time to lay down a real awards set for the Historical/quasi Historical groups we cover? Since we are not folding all our cons into Strategicon this would be the way to go, keep the awards, separate. When I became President of HMGS/PSW one of the first things I did was to change the awards policy from giving out awards to players to giving them to the hard working GM's. This encourages the GM's to bring better and better games to the cons as well as rewards their efforts in a meaningful way. The players rewards are the games themselves! Things are looking bright for the mini's area we need to keep working at it though there is lots of room for improvement. We had more game in the area than I have seen in the last 5 years except the HMGS/Gateway con but "Orccon's" Sunday showing was better, much better! Most Sundays in the last 5 years you could shoot a canon it the area and not hit much the last Sunday saw 8+ games all day and still going strong when I left at 8PM!

Harmon, Robyn, Tim K, and I should work on this before the next Strategicon! HMGS/PSW is going to Celebrate its 20th year (1991-2011) this fall and "Gateway" will be the testing grounds for our "Fall Campaign" games could be the biggest yet!

Yours in Gaming!

A few weeks ago Eric posted a standard convention announcement on The Miniatures Page.
It received a great posted below:
I like to donate a painted miniature set to be given to a game winner at your convention. If you are interested, please e-mail me.
e-mail – figures at sltnet.lk
Website – miniaturelovers.com
Sanath

I have seen his work. Amazing stuff. Have you contacted him? Would you like me to pursue this for Gateway?
