[Deptheads] NO to the Band in the LARP

One thing to note regarding a band: Live music of copyrighted material
played at a convention requires us to pay a licensing fee. We're
regularly bugged by ASCAP for these fees. We don't normally have live
(or pre-recorded) music at our cons so it doesn't matter.

The only way we should allow the band is if they play their own music or
music that isn't copyrighted (such as old, classical music). If they're
playing covers or interpretations of existing music then it's a
violation since this would be a public performance during a paid
admission convention.

Since a band will add so little to our convention experience for almost
all involved, I say no way Jose. They'd have to do some fast talking to
show that it's relevent and important enough for the LARP AND guarantee
that it is original music.

Mark.
