[Deptheads] We have someone to run the dealer room!

good idea, but things to consider----
--Do we know who any of them are to contact them before the convention? We can't wait until saturday before flea market opens at 11am to ask someone to work our booth..especially if none say yes.
--Showing up to sell their own used gaming stuff for 1 or a few hours (11-3) saturday is not the same as working a booth in the dealer's room from (9:30 - 6 pm) saturday and sunday and then monday (9:30-2:30).--Running our dealer's room booth is what they are doing at the con for 24+ hours counting set-up, tear down, & booth hours.
--Most the flea market die-hard sellers are saturday only. Parking is an added expense to come for more days, a full badge instead of a 1-day badge, and possibly getting a hotel room.
--If they work for the convention they are a volunteer and they get a volunteer badge.
The flea market area during it's 11am -3pm hours are high traffic and high energy. The dealer's hate it and complain it cuts into their business. Giving someone a booth in the dealer's room at flea market rates (as long as they also run our booth)is not a good deal for them. They bought their own badge and are now paying $10 an hour for their booth , same as they would without working our booth...plus they would pay $80 for saturday and $80 for sunday while missing the flea market rush. We would have to give them a volunteer badge and charge them no more than the $40 per day they would pay at the flea market (or a table for free for helping us). Flea market table rates in the dealer's room will also have at least 1 dealer unhappy.
I suggest getting known trustworthy volunteers to run our booth (2 people, each does a 4 hour shift each day and 1 does monday). They can combine the hours with shifts in other areas for room reimbursement etc.
Nomatter how we do it...getting volunteers set for our booth before the convention is one less thing Melinda & Tim will have to deal with at the convention.

What about making a deal with one of the flea market guys who likes to be there when the flea market is open. Give them the table at flea market rates as long as they sell stuff for us too... obviously have to be someone we trust...

What's involved in manning the table? I might be able to get library staff to help with it. On Jul 22, 2011, at 10:08 AM, "Eric M. Aldrich" <ealdrich at mac.com> wrote:

Well, at least run the floor during the show for Gateway. Melinda Keller, who has run various aspects of PolyCon over the past 14 or so years will be running the floor for this show. She has been added to the department heads list for the time being. Welcome, Melinda! Eric _______________________________________________
