I agree, no need for a theme at this early point. That said, how about
"Many people wearing less cloths than they should"? Might as well have the
theme match the participants.

Theme is a good idea but do we really need a costume contest theme at this
point or should we wait a con or 2? We haven't established the costume
contest yet and do not want to limit our participants or have a theme that
excludes many of the costumes we already have (like the AOKP, Dying kingdoms,
and vampire larpers as well as anime, furry and video game themed costumes.)

We are 3 times a year unlike almost every other convention (which are once
a year) so we do not give participants a year to prep and create. Orccon,
gamex or gateway having a theme for the costume contest each year would be
great and let the other 2 be non-themed and build up interest, grab the
larpers to participate, etc.

We can also theme the convention which ties in the program cover, and
spotlights events in all department based on the theme (we have tossed this
idea around before). Then you can tie in the costume contest with a masquerade
ball following it. Example: Gateway theme is ancient rome . The con book
cover and every dept. spotlights a game or 2 based on the theme (ccg,
boardgames, wargames, bad movies, video games, miniature games, larps, rpgs) and
we have a costume contest sat. night at 7 and the masquerade ball following
it (1 hour social gathering with punch and cookies, veggie plate, etc.).
Same if the theme were steampunk, superheroes, or gothic. A themed
convention once a year would set it apart and gives 1 year prep each year for it.
I mentioned gateway because orccon is set, gamex is during end of school,
some of our vendors and participants are elsewhere, and it is mid con
season....but gamex is last con of year and right before the 6 month break.
Just some thoughts. Whatever you decide I will support.

Hey Ya'll

Gamex 2011's Costume Contest needs a theme.

What should it be?
