The best thing we can do to attract people away is ensure that our events
are up as soon as possible. The first thing people compare when deciding
what convention to go to is "What is there to do?" With that in mind, we need
to get our events up quickly and COMPLETE WITH DESCRIPTIONS. Not everyone
knows what is involved in playing "Container," or "Malifaux," or whatever.
We have too many events listed for Gamex that are just day, time and title.
As Karl said at the meeting, it's easy to cut and paste descriptions and
it's something we should be doing for all events.
Show people we have more to do and they will choose us over them.

We're going to start something radical for us starting this con -- we're
going to plan ahead :-)
With that in mind. I want all special events/gusts set in stone for Gamex
by the end of this month. Then I want to focus on Gateway. I want all the
special events and guests arranged for Gateway by the week before Gamex as I
want to launch the Gateway advertising campaign AT Gamex.
Why? Well, in case no one noticed we have THREE competing game conventions
running against us on Labor Day weekend in California. Conquest SF is
already advertising (it's essentially do or die for Mondo, so he's pulling out
all the stops), and Celesticon and SoCal Smackdown will step it up soon
too. We've already lost a few things to the two northern cons, and with the
competition up there we can expect few people making the trip south.
I think we're up to the challenge, but I don't think it will be easy.
Gateway last year was a smashing success, but it's going to be a lot of work to
equal or surpass that.
