[Deptheads] Special Guest Protocols

Scott is a good guy.
He runs his cgi studio, worked on comics, worked on animated stuff, and worked on Power rangers tv show and aliens vs predator video game. It was 12 years ago when I met him so I don't remember it all.
He did some art on some ccg cards and I have a psylocke card from the X-men TCG signed by him and a pic  (that was back in 2000).
That was back when Matt wilson and Brian snoddy also did art for the X-men TCG and then went and started their own company--- Privateer Press. And Paolo Parente did cards then his Dust world comics, models, games, etc.
The X-men TCG was done by wizards of the coast, marvel, and 20th century fox......and still was epic fail. The card art was sweeeet....and scott had some great pieces.
It would be great to have him do cover ar, badge art or other artwork for the con (like banner art, sign art, etc)....but he hasn't done anything with video games or  card game art in 12 years.

Scott is not local.  He's from TN.  He's also offered to donate original artwork for the charity event (especially if we use his Dreamland Chronicles comic for the theme *hint!*) and is very amenable.  He may be a bit more than we can afford in 2013, however (airfare...I dunno if we'd do the hotel, too...not sure on all that).  And, upon further discussion, most of his credits are in video games (remember Paperboy?  That was him...on the bike... his dad worked for the company and he'd come in a lot to visit...so, they asked him to bring his bike a few times and did captures of him).  From there, he actually went on to design some games that I can't recall names of because my brain is mushy.  He *has* done CCGs (can't recall those titles, either), and he is currently working on some other games....  So, I don't know what we'd want to say about him.  Maybe Renee would want to coordinate with him to do some artwork for the con?

I don't know know.  I didn't want to commit us or him to anything, but I really do think it would be awesome to have him out here.  He can do artwork, he can talk about video games--he can talk about video game artwork!  I'm sure he'd be thrilled to run a few CCG events, too, possibly...maybe even demo something he's working on.  I didn't get to far into details with him.  I did tell him that I wasn't really the person for this...just an idea girl...who tends to charge in and then stop short and look about and say, "Whoa...should prob'ly ask first..."  So, I'm asking.

Do we want him in 2013?

Keep in mind that in 2013, I'm stepping back from organizing guests and special events. I'll just be the library guy because I need to focus most of my energy on my game company (what energy I have left after the insane job and taking care of these creatures that live in my house, eat all my food and use all my money - I think some euphemistically refer to them as "a wife, kids, two dogs and three cats").

I was going to see about Susan McKinley-Ross (author of last year's Spiel Des Jahres winner, Qwirkle - and another guest that would work really well for families because she's done a lot of family and kid games). She's in the Bay Area and we could get her down her for the cost of two Southwest tickets (her husband is also a designer). She's a good friend but I should ask her soon if we'd like to secure her for Orccon 2013. The rest of the year, I was going to suggest we focus again on locals and maybe recognize some local designers like we did Victory Point Games and Gorilla Games. We could do Numbskull, AEG, Blue Panther, the list goes on...

If people are happy with it, cool. If people say 'where are those big-name designers?', Stephanie can help secure them (with a little help from me, surely) in 2014 when the belt is hopefully loosened a bit. Feedback very welcome.
