I agree, you do have to make choices. But the seminars will lose out 90%
of the time. That was really my point. When you have 4 hour games in
RPGs, you're going to lose a good chunk of people who may be cross-genre
folks, but really want to play that Abney Park game (*note* We should try
to get more people running this one for Gamex), but also really want to
attend the seminar about the new CCG, "Mall Rats" or something.
My husband had suggested having the area out in front of the RPG reg area
or along the side designated as a "pick up game" area. That way folks who
weren't able to get into a game or had to leave a game for whatever reason
could find a GM and play. They're not scheduled...they're just there.
Kind of like "Open Gaming" but in the RPG area.
If I wasn't staff or volunteering, I probably wouldn't have stayed the full
con because I was *THAT* bored. I'm not a GURPS person, and all the RPGs
seem to be heading that direction--or, they fill up because, like Victor
said, people pre-reg for the GMs they like (I know I do!). I don't know
what the solution is...and if I'm not a part of the solution, I guess I'm
just part of the precipitate! But, anyway... I think having some
non-scheduled games that run for 1 or 2 hours a pop would be good. "Open"
to those who want to join in and don't have another game going on.
