[Deptheads] Gamex Charity Event

As some of you know, the Anaheim Muzeo recently closed a very sucessful Steampunk exhibit that ran in parallel with the Queen Victoria's Gallery. The people in our area are really ready for something like this. The League of Steam was a big part of the Anaheim effort, as was the HMGS - Pacific Southwest. I will check with Marisela and willl get started on costumes and uniforms right away. If I might suggest a charity, the Muzeo has a group that bring art to underprivilige children. On the other hand, naming one of our own groups and using the money raised to give them funds for charity work might be better recieved. Heather and Devi could certainly use some funds to buy boardgames for their events.

Due to a bunch of other things going on in my life, I missed my own self-imposed deadline for a proposal to the hotel for space for a charity "ball."  If Tim or Eric A would let me know who I need to talk to regarding space donation, that'd be great. :D  Worst case, I will commandeer the largest LARP room I can find.  Anyway, here's what's going on and if any of you lovely folks would like to help me with this, PLEASE DO! :D

What: A Gaslight Masquerade
When: Gamex - Friday, May 25, 2012
Time: 8pm-Midnight
What: A charity event, sponsored by (Charity name still pending).

Basically, this is a 4 hour event in which I would like to offer the guests "Things of Interest" that go along with our con theme (Steampunk).  TL and I are working on contacting the League of STEAM to make a guest appearance for this event (and hopefully do something fun!), and I'm going to fire off an e-mail to Captain Brown of Abney Park to see if they're available and interested in coming.  Now, I realize we won't have access to a *great* sound system, but maybe they'd be interested in playing... I don't know and you never know until you ask.

What I really need help with is planning things to do during that four hour period.  I was quite the sheltered child and never went to a high school dance (it was verbotten!), so no idea what takes place at them other than, ya know, dancing.  Ideally, I'd like to have the costume contest during this event.  It *is* required to dress in costume for it and it's an additional $15 charge (which goes 100% to the charity, so it's tax deductible).

If anyone's been to the Phoenix ComiCon (unfortunately, the same weekend as Gamex), they do the Geek Ball there for Kids Need to Read.  KNTR is actually going to help me plan for the one in September (and be there for it!), but I'd like to do a test run, so to speak, for Gamex.  Since the Geek Ball is exclusive to the Phoenix ComiCon, ours needs to be different in some way.  Theming it to the con was different enough for them.

So, I think that's the long and short of it.  Discuss!
