I completely agree. By the way, I really think we SHOULD reach out to the Big Bang Theory to see if they want to film at the con sometime. Kevin Sussman (the comic book store owner) is a gamer (as is Wil Wheaton) - they'd probably love to get a storyline or two out of it. Heck, they just went nuts on Settlers of Catan jokes last week. Kevin hasn't been the con (to my knowledge) but he does go to some outside events and I chat with him occasionally. I can see about that.


He's also our Friend on Facebook - we could contact him there, too...

The artwork pokes fun at gaming's complete non-glamor. After decades of convention artwork (everywhere) with telepathic dragons, gritty World War II infantrymen and talking game pieces, we laugh at our own nerdiness. The "cheesecake" factor only heightens the joke. Gaming has been so heavily male (there's a pun there...) until pretty recently. The "fanboy's dream" artwork is definately fun and self-aware.
 
AN IDEA - Estimate sizes, and send a T-shirt or two to each cast member of "The Big Bang Theory"... Who knows?

There is some art are backlash from a couple of @Strategicon followers on Twitter.  Two followers believe the art is sexist.  I have sent along what I believe is a very diplomatic response (pasted below).  I just wanted ya'll to know what was brewing!


By the by, I did not voice my personal opinion which is, I don't find the artwork sexist at all.  I think it's edgy and gorgeous. Then again, I work at Disney Animation where all our movies allegedly objectify and stereotype women all the time :)

First - thank you for your honest opinion! Your views are heard here and welcomed! As are the views of others who dig or don't dig the different kinds of artwork produced by the artists for at Strategicon.

I (@StrategiconTL) am the Art Director for @Strateigcon and directly responsible for obtaining the art for the events. And I am a woman. 

Our shirts from previous conventions have run the gamut of themes including gender and genderless shirts. Artists are asked to create designs about gaming - in all its edgy, wistful, horrible, colorful, silly, dark forms. 

My intent as Art Director is never to objectify, demoralize, diminish any gender, race, age, religion, ability or political affiliation. My intent is to let local artists interpret gaming themes and have them produce the best quality work possible based on their vision - from being inspired by the works of Boris Vallejo & Julie Bell, to Tim Burton, or from the well worn pages of a D&D players manual. 

Please keep the conversation going. Discourse about such social issues is important in the world of gaming and art!

Please keep in mind that we are trying not to have hand written signs. If you get your requests and any necessary images to me before the Monday before the con. I will put the sign together. These signs can be 8.5x11 or 11x17 and color.
If you find a need for a sign at the con and 8.5x11 black and white is ok, it should be doable. And I will gladly put the sign together, Keith permitting.
