[Deptheads] Some random stuff

Hi everyone,

I have two small issues with making the play testing small tournaments.  First is the budget in general, since everyone wants their event to be a small tournament.  I have restructured the tournaments so there is only one MEGA again and there are more Small Tournaments, but there is still a finite budget.  The second problem has to do with how I am trying to determine those events that do get to be small tournaments.  I am trying to use the data we have so laboriously collected to see what people are playing and where they are spending their time.  I have been trying to make games with higher turnouts and longer play times tournaments.  Play testing sometimes can be very short and not have many players.  I second the idea of offering raffle tickets, and putting them on the schedule as either "Events" or "Sponsored."

As for keeping them in the ballroom, I hope that is not a problem =)  We were tight on space a couple times last con, but with better scheduling and refining the reservation system, we should be able to handle the space demands.  The location along the wall with the library should hopefully be big enough.

Giant Ghost Stories and 7 Wonders could be scheduled events every 2 or 3 hours.  Just let me know which days and for how long and I will put them in the schedule if you want me to =)  I would recommend 2 hours for 7 Wonders and 3 for Ghost Stories, just to make sure people have time to finish their games.  I think the space next to the library would be better, since this is becoming the de facto Guest of Honor area.  Also, BGs has people in the ballroom all night that can keep an eye on the set if its left there.

Sorry I didn't make the meeting earlier this month. Somehow I thought it was the 22nd and then couldn't get away on the 15th due to other things. Some comments and questions for the list:

Going Cardboard Documentary - Nick, do we want to show it again? I had a couple of people ask about it and I can clear it with Lorien if we want to show it again.

Playtester's Corner - They liked how it went last time with their events in the main ballroom. I think it makes sense to just to let them do that and offer them the chance to run their events as Small tournament. Alternatively, we could give Dealer Room raffle tickets to participants that play in their events (right, Paiva? You want more people to have them - yes?)

Giant 7 Wonders and Ghost Stories- We need to plan some space for these "big' versions of Guest of Honor Antoine Bauza's hottest games. Asmodee is sending the Giant Ghost Stories to me directly from Gen Con and 7 Wonders will probably come with Stefan Brunelle of Asmodee, who is considering coming to Gateway himself. Stefan has confirmed that he doesn't need a table in the dealer room, Paiva, but I was wondering if you might want to set up Giant Ghost Stories in the room if you have more space than dealers. It would be kind of a cool draw, it would allow it to be locked up when it's not in use (7 Wonders is a little easier to put away) and it would draw people into the dealer room to see it. The downside, unless it gets put up right next to the Strategicon table, there is no one to watch it. This is just a thought - my expectation is that we'll probably put it up in the VIP area next to the Boardgame Library. Shane/Tim/Dean - I was planning to add 2
hour blocks to the schedule to use it while the library is open. Aldrich - is there a way to only allow one pre-reg for these events so someone can 'reserve' the Ghost Stories board for two hours? If not, we'll just, uh, 'check it out' through the library (and we'll handle 7 Wonders similarly).
