We really need to communicate and cooridinate when dealing with manufacturers and companies for strategicon. 
As several people have pointed out on this list--Mickey Tan already orders and gives his volunteers dice each convention and has so for many years and has said he would order more for other departments.
Mickey is already getting dice and can get extra for boardgames volunteers along with those he is getting for now every other deptartment as well--basically all volunteers for gateway 2012 are getting dice.
Custom Dice are a perk.
 
As I said in the other discussion I do not think perks should be sold because then they lose coolness factor... $2.00 for a pair of gateway dice is easier than working the 8 hours+.
And different colors for perk dice and ones being sold won't keep perk dice "cool" since we all have different tastes in dice colors and the dice colors will change each con. The color dice sold my be cooler to somone than the color we have on perks or vice versa.
A perk is earned and rewarded not purchased. The custom green gateway dice I earned is no longer a perk when others can buy the same dice but in a different color. The perk is the custom dice not the color. Basically my 2 dice perk is worth $2.00 in the dealer's room. 
 
The compromise if we wanted to make our money back on the dice would be to allow those who "earned" the dice as perks to purchase additional dice. I don't recommend this since it puts a monetary value on the perks ($1.00 each). 
150 volunteers getting a pair of custom dice each is cool. They are sovenirs.
btw....We used to sell strategicon dice bags and we sold Gamex 2012 dice towers. Selling things publically with our brand on it is a great idea...but I think those things should be different than what we reward as perks.

Hey everyone,

    Okay, so I have been in touch with the Chessex folks and I would like to place an order.  Do we want to get dice that can be sold at the convention?  I think this is a great idea, and the convention can make a little bit of money on the side.  I am ordering some dice as swag for the volunteers and these dice will be different from those sold if we decide to do so.

    If we order 500 dice, it will be about $225 (.42 per die plus 7% S&H).  This would give us 300 dice in the dealer room that can be sold for $1 each.

    If I place the order, I would need to be reimbursed as soon as possible.

    Finally, I would like some artwork or special font or something generally cool and unique that will be associated with Gateway 2012.  I can always just go with a plain "Gateway 2012" on one face, but that seems pretty lame given that Chessex can do some pretty amazing stuff.
