[Deptheads] Facebook Pages

I'd definately suggest not using "SoCal," etc, in the title... That's been used *elsewhere* recently.

California is rather a wide brush to use, especially as another big con runs at the same time... in California.

Orccon and Gamex make no geographic mentions in their titles - again I would suggest "Gateway Game Con"

Many people have no idea of the negative connotations that are associated with Los Angeles in the minds of people who don't live there. I think Southern California or West Coast or California would be a lot better, and I have a Gateway 1981 attendance badge hanging in my kitchen, along with about 3 dozen others (I wish I kept them all!)

How about "Gateway Game Con" for the Facebook page only.

It's odd that apparently people south and east of Los Angeles would be adverse to LA references, but people to the north wouldn't - no one is worried about the reaction of folks in Simi Valley, Ventura, Palmdale or Bakersfield...

Yup, the con is in L.A. But we are really a Southern California convention since we cater all the way south to the border and a ways up to Central California, too. We're actually the West's Premier Convention Series, right? ;) If you just say L.A., we also lose even the OC people (in their minds).

Noted on the LA part (despite the fact that's where we're located). Also, I shall link them all as soon as I eat and start monkeying around with it again. This has been a LOVELY distraction from my obnoxious class.

A couple of suggestions...

Don't use "LA" or anything about Los Angeles as a suffix. It has the potential to upset some of the gamers further south.

Be sure to have links to the other sites

Okie dokie! It's here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gateway/403548119684538 ; So, everyone who has facebook accounts can like each of the pages and see if we can get them going up to 25 so we can snag our URLs. Might need to do GatewayLA or G8way or something like that... Gamex, not sure yet... Orccon should be fine.

The last time (at least that I remember) that setting up sites for each con was discussed, "Gateway Los Angeles" and "Gateway Game Convention" were floated. This was a WHILE ago, before Big Time Social Media...

Gateway has been the name of the Labor Day con at least since about '88. Location has moved at least three times...

We also talked about it at the last staff meeting. ...because it's named after the hotel where we were hosting it... I'm sure we can find a better story behind the name, like... it's the GATEWAY to ADVENTURES in GAMING or something like that. Meh, it's a stretch, I know, but....it could work.

...and, alrighty, then. I'm sure "Gateway" isn't available for a page name because of that lame computer company, but I'll see what I can do!

I would do it only as a place holder at this point... so we don't loose the url

Huh?

I haven't done one for Gateway yet because, a) I don't have the final artwork and b) I don't want to name the URL if we're changing the name of the con when we move to the Hilton.

We talked about possibly changing Gateway's name about five years ago, and dropped the idea as wasted effort that would cause only more confusion...

Not re-branding, just giving people a way to find us if they don't know to look for Strategicon.

PS: Whilst I was editing the Gamex page, we got a couple likes.
