Cool ideas.......but let's not forget that our convention starts in 7 days so I do not want to get into a detailed discussion of Valentine's day events that have already been proposed and events that are already planned (and adding new ideas like photo booth etc.that sound great). Too close to Gateway to switch our focus. We will do something. We will accomidate the couples that are at the con. A gamer-friendly event because we are a gaming convention.  Non-gamer spouses who do not attend the con do not want to come out to eat, dance, and hang with gamers on a romantic night. They want to get dressed up and go to a romantic dinner for 2 or something that is not tied gaming. They want their spouse to themselves not sharing their special night with Darth Vader, Napoleon, Pikachu, Werewolves, and the settlers of Catan. It has not worked trying to get non-gaming spouses out on valentine's day. You can put lipstick on a pig and tie a ribbon around
 it's tail but it is still a pig--they are still coming to a gaming con and they are sharing your attention with gaming and gamers. So we will have an event for couples who attend our con. We will also have an event for singles. Why? Because gaming is a community with lots of single people. Several people are depressed on valentines day and feel left out. We won't rub salt into their wounds at Orccon. We will have an event for single people too. Not an anti-valentine's event but a gamer friendly fun social event for people who are at the con solo (Some will have significant others not at con and others will be single). 
 
Back to Gateway.... we will re-open this discussion on sept. 3rd after Gateway has ended. Ideas , suggestions, space available, music, decorations, cost to do and cost to attend, volunteering to help set up, etc. will be discussed then as will the things already planned. So hold those cool ideas and suggestions one more week and then we will jump in and plan some fun events. And yes there will be cake and balloons.

What do you guys think about a V Day dinner or ball to support our married and otherwise connected gamers and promote them to attend the CON instead of taking their significant others out on that special night?
 
I can do a photo-booth, or bring a printer to make 4x6 V Day images.  Or you can get that company that was at the con, a few cons ago, that had the dress up booth and they made pictures for people for like 20 bucks or so.
 
Valentine messages in the con book?  Or get the LARPers or Cosplayers to deliver Valentine greetings?
 
Just an idea, because I know what my lady is gonna say:
 
"*$@#! yo friends and some stupid #$@# games! I wanna go to *insert fancy restaurant here* !"
 
Or am I the only one in this group that will have this problem?
