Thanks for the reminder Nick.....We have been discussing badge ribbons and encourage other groups and individuals to bring and pass out badge ribbons...that is what makes it work. Only getting one from the con won't work,
There are people that like to have 5, 10 or even 20 badge ribbons attached to their badge. Nick is right...people coast to coast at fandom cons will beg, cluck like a chicken, answer trivia, give a hug, etc. to get a badge ribbon...especilly
the really clever ones. I gave out some badge ribbons at orccon many years ago--they said "hall costume award"...i gave them to anyone I saw wearing a costume or cosplaying. I had 50 of them. People came back the next day with costumes just to get the badge ribbon i was giving out the day before. People get creatrive with badge ribbons--Like of our Erics getting ribbons that say "league of erics" and give them out to anyone they see named eric..and few not named eric that talked them out of the ribbon.
These are things individuals and groups/organizations bring to the con and pass out. You can have a ribbon that says "gangan style" and people will come up and ask you for the ribbon once they know you are pasing them out. Someoen could pass out "I am not the werewolf" badge ribbons and those would be popular. Tell people they get them from playing in the game.
Once several groups and people are passing out ribbons then you have the trading etc. It is another perk of going to cons that you cannot get at your local store or gaming at home. Some vendors or companies that attend will bring badge ribbons with their email address on them. "I travel in time" was a ribbon i got last week from the neighboring con having people doing both. I realize fandom cons do better with them since fandom cons have firefly browncoast (they pass out brown ribbons that say browncoast), trek fan groups, anmie groups, lord of the rings (lots of cool ribbons from this), different comic groups, spartacus groups, battlestar, harry potter, twilight (yes,,the team jacob and team edward ribboins were around) dr. who, etc. and they also have room parties, con dance, masquerade, and lobby-con. We won't be at that level but adding badge ribbons and a few drops of fandom to our con will help the convention atmosphere. So much more you get for
your con dollar than just playing games...and we add more each con.

My two cents:
AnimeLA and Galifrey are big on ribbons, crazy big. People play/demo/beg/trade for simple ribbons that have clever/punny messages written. Not suggesting we do that, but people wear these ribbons by attaching them to their badges. So pins can make for awesome eye-candy, as long as they are done well. I suggest not doing round buttons with safety pin backs.

That way we give the volunteers something they can't get anywhere else, people can get cool dice in the dealer room, and we can offset the cost of the dice. Chessex allows 5 different styles for large orders like this, so I can add 50 or 100 dice and get a third style for the dealer room.

>>>Your choice.....we were talking about getting some of the dice order to sell to compensate for the cost of the dice. If you want to get an extra 50 or so we'll take them in the Dealer's Room to sell in pairs and get back some of the costs. If you want to make it just for GMs that's fine too....just a cost saving option.
