[Deptheads] Guest of Honor: Vlaada Chvatil

First off, I am going to work with Tim to increase the size of the DEMO/VIP area for Gateway.  In the past we have had 6 recs, which has at times not been enough.  Given that we will have several events with Vlaada I think its important to increase that size to 9 tables and possibly make them rounds or a mix.

1)  Do we want to make these scheduled events or run it more like a Play to Win, where players check out the games from the library and report who won?  The former may limit how many players participate, while the latter is subject to dishonesty.

2)  I am up for a BIG Galaxy Trucker tournament.  Just tell me when you want it and who is running it (or if I need to find someone to run it)

3)  Do you want a "Sponsored" Through The Ages event?  Same question as 2)

4)  Like I mentioned before, I have a friend who almost freaked when I mentioned that Vlaada was our next guess.  He owns three copies of Space Alert and has already asked if he could please run the event.  We just need to find him space.

5-9) Please let me know ASAP if you have events/demos that you want put on the schedule.  I want to make sure that I limit or remove other DEMOs from the schedule when he will be needing lots of space.

Okay, folks - I don't have a picture and bio yet but Vlaada and I have exchanged long e-mails this weekend and this is going to be epic.

1) Vlaada-Thon - Shane and I discussed (and I think I have someone willing to administer) a "Vlaada-Thon" where players will get points for playing Vlaada's games.

2) Galaxy Trucker - Vlaada will be bringing new, exclusive ships for the players in a final for a Galaxy Trucker event we should run.

3) Through The Ages - He will have special CGE (his publishing company) exclusives for prizes and he may have a special exclusive-to-Strategicon announcement at the show regarding the game. That's not for sure so mum's the word there. 

4) Space Alert - For those that don't know, Space Alert is a realtime game that has a soundtrack so if people are really going to play it, they need a quiet space. I'm hopeful we can get a room somewhere to run a Space Alert tournament. Each table would have a game on it with players and one sound system would guide them through the game. Ideally, we'd run a 101 or two beforehand for new players.

5) He'll have his Spiel 2013 release in prototype form for our attendees to get an exclusive look at. It is something the eurogamers and the wargamers alike might enjoy.

6) He will have expansions for the wildly popular Tzolkin and Last Will on-hand. Tzolkin was the most-checked out game at the last two Strategicons. 

7) I asked him if he might be willing to do something with the improv folks. While I don't think he's the actor type (although he's a naturally funny guy, as anyone who has read his rules would know), he's agreed to provide some 'inspiration' for the groups and is happy to converse with them ahead of the event. I'm no improv guy but I can only imagine they would love to do some shows based on his wonderfully thematic games Dungeon Lords, Dungeon Petz, and Galaxy Trucker in particular. If they don't think that's comic gold, they aren't thinking clearly.

8) Dungeon Petz - He'll have an exclusive version of their new expansion for Spiel 2013 as well. I'll be asking Z-Man for a copy because we don't have one.

We could use second copies of a few of his games. I'll look into acquiring a second Through The Ages, Galaxy Trucker and Dungeon Lords - but I'll strongly encourage people to bring them, too.

Shane - Let's talk space considerations. I'm assuming we can run the Vlaada-thon in an extended VIP section.

The Space Alert room - we could probably use one of those smaller rooms on the third floor. Maybe we could run an Escape event (also a 'soundtrack' game) there, if you like. We have a copy and I could get more considering Queen just said they'd like to send us more support (thanks to their local rep spending time at the con and being impressed with it).

Let's plan the improv stuff soon if they want Vlaada to attend.

I have Lana Berman taking care of Vlaada while he's at the con. Thanks again BIG TIME to Kryssie for looking after Mike Nystul.

Paiva - Vlaada won't need a table but he's happy to do a signing in the room. Name the time - I think mid-morning Saturday would be cool but you tell me.

Feedback very welcome. People are going to really love Vlaada - he's a great guy. He'll be the most popular guest since Antoine for sure.
