[Deptheads] Guests and Facebook

Just a note to say I'm back from the Gathering of Friends (Ticket to Ride
designer Alan Moon's private, industry-focused convention) with some guest
possibilities. This is mostly for Eric and Victor but others might be
interested in voicing whether these guests would be good.
- Mike Fitzgerald (of Mystery Rummy fame) is happy to come out. He's a
domestic flight and a really nice guy. He also designs many
traditional-style card games as opposed to just board games and we might be
able to market that a bit.
- Eric Lang (tons of FFG games, including the Star Wars LCG) is happy to
come out, perhaps for Orccon 2015. He's in Ontario, CA so it's not domestic
but at least it's not across the Atlantic.
- William Attia (of Caylus fame) said he might consider coming next year
or thereafter. He's sending me an e-mail with information on when he could
potentially come.
- Ted Alspach may come down for Gateway 2014 to promote his new games
but Celesticon is trying to keep him there. If we covered costs, we could
get him down here. His new game, Castles of Mad King Ludwig, was one of the
hits of the show.
- Bruno Cathala is still interested in coming but that would be Gateway
2015 more than likely. We could push to get him here for this year and it
would be great because he designed the next Days of Wonder release (their
first entry into a "Gamer's Games" line) and it's actually terrific.
- Kevin Wilson is willing to come back in the future. He'll be moving to
Seattle later this year and that'll make it a cheaper flight. He's a fan
favorite and has a bevy of great games coming soon (played his new X-Files
game and it's quite good). We could probably get Tom Lehmann down again,
too. He's always fun to host.
- Bugged Friedemann Friese again and he might be convinced if we flew
out his girlfriend with him. I didn't commit to that but if you want to pay
for two tickets from Germany, we could potentially get our favorite
green-haired designer.
- Jay Cormier (of Belfort fame) and his design partner Sen could also
potentially come out. They only have a couple of titles so far but they
have a great new party game that will be sweeping the nation soon. Also
Canadian - maybe in 2015 after their game hits.
Also, I was thinking we might consider giving a pass for a free badge to
all Gathering attendees next year. It's a lot of badges (about 350-375
people) but we could make them non-transferable. The majority of the
attendees are from the East and it might inspire some people to fly out,
raise awareness among the most exclusive gamer convention around, and
impress the publishers who could support the conventions. Just a thought -
let me know if you like the idea and I can propose offering one in the gift
bag to Alan.
On Facebook - is anyone monitoring it? There were questions in there and a
lot of chatter. Just wondering as I only check it out occasionally and we
had a lot of messages, friend requests, and posts with questions.
