[Deptheads] Personnel updates

Hi everyone!

Thank you for the introduction and for the welcome. My name’s Tara; I shadowed Ryan in his duties during this last con, and he’s systematized his process to such an extent that the transition should be as smooth as possible. I’m not planning on trying to reinvent the wheel (for at least a couple of cons), so things should move on with a minimum of disruption. If anyone has any questions or advice, I’d respond to and appreciate either.

My chief volunteer will be my boyfriend Robert Prag. We’ve both GMed LARPs at Stratcon for some years, and we haven’t missed a con since we got together; he’ll be around to help me schlep and set things up, etc. I think I met a few of you, and I’m looking forward to meeting the rest.

I don’t want to take up too much of your time, but I do think it’s incumbent on me to thank Ryan—I’ve really enjoyed LARPs at Stratcon for a number of years, which was made possible by his work and coordination, and he also has done a really good job onboarding me and continuing to make himself available as the transition moves forward. That in itself is exemplary even for paid work, to say nothing of volunteerism—and as gratitude is all we have to pay in volunteer work, I’d like him to know he has mine.

Looking forward to working with all of you!

Tara

Two new board members

Effective immediately we have two new Strategicon Board members.

Jim Sandoval (voting) and Mike Fryer (non voting). Jim is stepping into the spot open due to Tim’s passing. Mike is stepping into the role most recently held by Mike James before John Paiva stepped down. We decided to go back to this structure and have a sixth non-voting member to offer advice and break ties if one person could not make the meetings. Mike Fryer is also part of the ownership and has a voice already in those matters as well.

So now Jim and Mike get to drink directly from the firehose. Thanks guys.

Ryan McMullan is stepping down

Ryan is officially stepping down as LARP coordinator effective after this last show. He’s planned this for a while, and will still be involved in the con, but on the writing/GMing side. Heck, right now he’s still on the list so if he wants to add anything, he can.

Ryan is actually the second longest serving of our department heads (after Tracy) — he started back at Orccon 2008 — a good solid 10-year run.

His replacement is Tara Leederman. She’s been heavily involved in Wyrd Con and helping Ryan the last couple of cons. I’ll let her introduce herself. She’s now on the list.

So thank you, Ryan. Welcome Tara.

Eric
