We made many ambulance calls for food poisoning in vermont and new hampshire area...especially around dartmouth university in winter. It ends up being a combination of the flu and food poisoning.Food poisoning can take around a week to effect or as soon as the first hour of eating. Same with clearing up. Within the day or lasts several days. Food poisoning can occur from toxic or contaminated food and our friend norovirus. This virus is contagious and being in schools , conventions, military, hospitals, stadiums, where you are in direct and indirect contact with someone that has the virus you will get infected. People at game cons eat contaminated and bad food all weekend and are around people eating left out pizza, day old fast food, unrefrigerated dairy, etc...plus people at con sip out of each other's drinks, eat from same bag of chips or share other foods, etc.
We are all used to cases of con crud afterwards; but cases during con it is a cause for alarm and appreciated when someone like Jim alerts us so we can see if many others had the same symptons of diagnosis and can point towards a specific hotel food item being contaminated or carls junior or a common food item they all at at con from same source that was from simply left out too long before eaten I suspect a few sick people spread norovirus and it is a cause of food poisoning and easily passed indirectly especially in a convention. We had 3500 people at gallifrey. Those attendees are from around the world and they had many people at our hotel. The NBA all-star game had 21,000 people at staples an several of them were at our hotel as well. I saw a couple people wearing masks around hotel and using hand sanitizer touching elevator or in places to eat and at front desk.
Thanks to Jim for the heads up about the people that reported getting sick and those that reported attendees leaving and being diagnosed with food poisoning. Sharing info is always good and knowing if the jalepeno burger at carls is getting people sick or the hotel nachos is good to know. Crosschecking our notes with each other.

Well, the two PFS GMs both went to the hospital Saturday night and both were diagnosed with food poisoning. In talking to them they both ate at Carl's Jr Friday night and again Saturday morning. By 8pm Saturday night they were unwell.

It's more than likely whatever people have was picked up just from being at the con and touching surfaces than specific food poisoning.

One person actually admitted to me that they had "the flu" while at the con, and I know they interacted with quite a few people while there.

FWIW, Polly, Sheila, and I all had a burger from Carl's Jr on Friday night, and didn't have any problems.

I have had at least two direct reports and three other accounts of people getting food poisoning at Orccon this year. Has anyone else heard about it? I'm just wondering if the Hilton may have had an issue this year with some contaminated food.

Thanks,

"Would you like another drink, sir?" asked the bartender.
"I think not," replied Descartes, and promptly vanished.
