Strategicon Meeting Minutes 8 July 2018

In Attendance: Mike James, Chris Carlson, Brandon Wiess, Fred Upton

A. Lunch – Why is this still on here?

B. Welcome and Announcements – In case you missed it, Eric Downing is back
in charge of Marketing.

C. Gamex

               1. What went right – 2140 people, Artemis, lots of stuff. We
are getting good at this.

               2. What went wrong – Parking, but that is the fault of LAX.
Artemis isn’t cheap.

D. Gateway

               1. Budget – One time investment in Artemis actually made
this show a small loss. Keep it tight.

2. Special Guests and Events – Laughing moon. Cheapass Games, Fantasy
Football. Anything else get details to Eric Downing and Tanya ASAP.

3. Publicity – Need someone to handle Facebook and Twitter, surely there
must be some Millennial we can talk into doing this.

                              a. Marketing Email #1 – Doing a call for
volunteers. If you need people, let Eric and Eric

know what and when you need. Also, letting Eric D know what kind of cool
stuff to pimp would

be helpful.

                              b. Art – Rene Rose Perry is probably handling
art and back on the masthead.

                              c. Shirts – If you need shirt reprints from
last con, tell Eric A ASAP.

               4. Department reports

Dealers room – Oversold by 5.

Video Games – Not a lot this summer, looking at having Fortnite tournament.

Board Games – No Catan Qualifiers, getting traction in the big games again.

Party – People don’t read signs. Sharing HQ with LARPs was great.

Adventurers League – Made everything fit, which will never happen again.

Minis – Massive changes coming to paint and take. Watch this space.

Pathfinder – Will have multi-table games of starfinder and PFS 2nd edition
playtest.

Trying to get a guest for Gateway.

LARPs – Having problems being used as babysitters, will address ASAP.

5. Signage – Despite the fact no one reads signs, we are updating a few
signs with new HQ info, get anything else you need to Mike J.

               6. Website – Moving away from wordpress. Looking at finally
splitting up RPGs, AL, and PFS.

               7. Parking – Sucks. Has sucked. Will continue to suck. LAX
has 2800 spots being repaired now. Going to try SpotHero again, maybe a
rideshare thing with the hotel. Any kind of ideas about alternative stuff
would be greatly appreciated.

               8. Rooms – Anything different from Gamex get to Victor ASAP.
We will sell out, and we only have one room block.

               9. Hotel Layout Space – Get to Mike J ASAP. I can’t stress
this enough, I need to have my stuff completed and to the hotel 30 days
before con. Starting a silent auction in the flea market Sunday night.

               10. Logistics – If you need the floor lamps for any reason,
you need to let Mike J know. Most of them are finding new homes. If you
want to adopt a floor lamp, let Mike J know. Free to a good home, they all
have had shots and are fixed. Also, label anything we store for you.

E. Deadlines

               Wed, 7-25 Special Facility Requests due to Mike J.

               Mon, 7-30 Room lists to Victor B. and Eric A. Sooner is
better, we will sell out.

               Sat, 7-28 Board Game submissions close. Might want to have
this on the front page. Hint Hint.

Fri, 8-10 Event Submissions (allegedly); Con Book Ads

               Sat, 8-11 Event Pre-reg turned on

               Mon, 8-13 Conbook proofs start (go ahead and laugh heartily
at this, we did. Should be 8-20)

                         Badge list must be entered, no fooling on this
one, Tracy WILL cut you.

               Fri, 8-17* Hotel Reg

               Mon, 8-27 Con Pre-Reg turned off, Event Pre-Reg turned off
