[Deptheads] Confusion about Host vs Primary and Secondary Type

Hi All,

This is a fairly urgent request that should be put into effect asap for Orccon 2025. As in please do it before Payouts pulls their data.

I’m realizing that a number of events are listing the department they are hosted in as Primary and another as Secondary, yet, the real primary type is the Secondary type. Remember, presently, general users do not have full control over which department they run in. The only way to run in a department that is also a game type is to list that department as the primary type.

I intend to remedy this issue, but in the meantime I need your vigilance.

Please review your dual type events to make sure they are listed correctly. I will not assume that such events are wrong. If these are not fixed, they will be perpetuating errors in future winners lists and annual awards.

The below information is less urgent, but should be implemented for future cons.

Special consideration is made for Party and War games.
Both of these departments were separated from board games some time ago because there were enough events and the distinctness of play. Your departments are considered the Primary. However, starting 2025, there is a possibility that unless a secondary type is listed that is not board games, the event will be considered a board game for the annual awards. The only way to likely prevent this merge is to have enough non-cooperative and non-team events with winners data to justify a separate award. War games has had an award some years. Party games has yet to quality. In both cases, please review Orccon 2025 data and if you can’t change the information, email me the events that need updating.

For future reference these departments will no longer be allowed as Primary Type
D&D Adventurers League
Indie New Games
Pathfinder Society
Play to Win

None of these departments are a primary game type, they are at best a sub-type of a primary game type.
They will all remain as a Secondary Type option for the foreseeable future.

The inadvertent abuse of General as a type for game events that don’t fit in any other primary type is making us work on adding “Other” as a type. Once this type exists all game events need to move from General to Other as their Primary Type. General is only for non-game events. General events are also considered attendable by any age and will need special permission to be labeled anything else.
