<div>"New Blood" is exactly what is needed as every year we cycle people up. We have added 5 departments in recent years and those running these departments were awesome volunteers. They in turn pull volunteers and gms from other areas to go to their new area. As we have grown our old blood has moved up the ladders but our recruitment of brand new gms and volunteers has slowed. I have gotten at least 1 new volunteers per con but that has been most often from a friend of a current volunteer or someone that knows me and asks if they can help.</div><div><br></div><div> I have ran a game in, or participated in a game in every department. Ran and played in larps (in costume), ran and hosted game shows and panels and movies and video games to miniatures, So I truly understand each area has different gm recruitment. For collectibles we have to have official company sponsored gms and for some official event organizers (which i am for magic the gathering and pokemon and most wizkids events so we just need gms). Also note gming a miniature game involves bringing painted miniatures and hosting start to finish. Gming rpgs is having your scenario ready (read or created) and ready to narrate the entire session. For the 4 hours you are narrator of their adventure. With party games, larps, rpgs, miniature gams (like circus maximus for example), you are in the mix the entrie time. With collectible card/min games, war games, and board games you as gm in most events can "click and forget" until rulings needed, resolve a dispute, start the next round if it is a tourney with multiple games being layed. For single game events in those gm can usually play Active gming vs passive gming (set up the game, get names and badge numbers, record the winners and paperwork at end....or if multiple round tourney pairings each round). </div><div><br></div><div>Also note---Orccon we have Gallifrey next to us. Gamex we have khubla, A couple local store putting on events as alternative to us, and Phoenix fan fusion which combined account for a couple hundred attendee/volunteers/gms/vendors. Lots of stuff in may. Gateway is post gencon, dragoncon, etc. So we really really need new blood as gms....especially in boardgames where a new game is out every week from every source from major game companies to kickstarted by couple guys in their basement. Good games regardless of source and getting people to bring and run them and bring in new blood (new gms and more new games) is key. Not all the shoulders of department heads and karla.......when gaming with friends or at local store ask someone you see that is doing good job explaining rules and getting you into a new game if they would like to come gm it at con. We can also incorporate descriptions and shout outs for gms on webpage. Also flyers at freebie table at con calling for gms and volunteers with karla's strategicon contact etc.</div><div><br></div><div>That said (in novel form) I would like to thank all of you for the hard work you have done. It isn't easy and sometimes it downright sucks and you are like wtf? You are appreciated more than the board can say....but i will say it here again. Thank you</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Victor</div>

<div><div>While we are going down that informational rabbit hole, another good way to recruit would be to have a good description of what GMs/volunteers need to know or something that would help them be aware of it. Maybe, say, something on a department page. Maybe even every department page. In fact, if you were to send this description/information to Tanya and ask nicely, maybe she could put a handy dandy volunteer button somewhere near your ‘How to be a volunteer’ (or equivalent) blurb on your very own updated department specific page. </div><div><br clear="none"></div><div>Just sayin.
