Not how things are actually organized or determining depts but how games can be searched? Why is it set up as "primary" and "secondary" in any public display? Shouldn't these just be search tags? Like the games still get listed by Dept by default right? This is just searching, like if I search for RPGs it would show anything from the main RPG dept and things like Adventurers League and PA? But it would still show those in their correct dept? Like we're not talking about resorting how games are assigned to a Dept just how they can be searched? A Board Game Prototype is a unique type of board game. Do I go searching for Prototypes, not usually, but Board Games, yes. So, I might see the ING board game in a board game search and try it. All Board Games are not Prototypes and all Prototypes are not Board Games, but you can have a Prototype Board Game or a Board Game Prototype. Prototypes typically don’t stay as Prototypes, but if it’s a Board Game it is likely to stay a Board Game. The Event Type doesn't tend to change for a game. The search function needs to be useful to the attendees, and we need to think of it from that angle. People tend to search by game type. It's probably not a bad idea to have a Prototype secondary game type, and it may help attendees find the games they're looking for or get more information about the games they're looking at, but they won't all end up in ING. Lots of LARPs are Indy and new games, and many are untested, but ING is very much its own thing and it has particular affordances; it is a space to accommodate and showcase a very particular kind of game designer in a particular state of production, and can accommodate some kinds of games but not others. To help people find ING games, it is more useful to list them by game type--card game, board game, etc--to help people find the games they want to play. Having a secondary Prototypes game type isn't a bad idea, but we should always make sure to list the primary type correctly, because it's there to give attendees the best possible information when they search. Under this scheme, people searching for, say, "board games" are *more* likely to find ING, which is good for the ING department. I hope that's a helpful distinction.<div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Tara</div></div><br class=""><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Fri, Aug 28, 2020 at 10:25 PM Strategicon Department Heads <<a href="mailto:deptheads@strategicon.net" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer" class="">deptheads@strategicon.net</a>> wrote:<br class=""></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex">Message From: John Paiva <a href="mailto:evil5757@aol.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer" class="">evil5757@aol.com</a><br class="">
