[Strategicon-announce] Orccon 2024 is in three weeks!

Strategicon presents Orccon 2024 — our first show of 2024 — at the Los Angeles Airport Hilton over Presidents Day weekend (Feb 16 to 19). 

As always, we need games! If you'd like to run a game please sign up to do so at www.strategicon.net/?run_event. We can only run the games we have volunteers to run! The deadline to register a game is Friday Jan 26 as the next day game pre-registration starts at Noon PST (Jan 27)!

Would you like to earn a free badge to Orccon 2024? On top of more games, we need volunteers for all sorts of things. Run games, help with the family area, work the registration desk, whatever — we need people to make a live convention happen. Orccon 2024 already has several hundred events planned. Highlights include:

Orccon is once again hosting a Catan qualifier tournament for the National Catan Championship. The event starts on Sunday at noon. Participants will play three games and those with the best records will qualify for the Finals on Sunday night. The winner will get an invitation to the National Championship Event usually held at Origins in Columbus Ohio.

Board Games presents "The Gauntlet" -- 16 four-player games designed to separate the best from the rest. We ran this at Gateway 2023 and it was a lot of fun, so we're going to do it again. Begins Friday evening and runs through Sunday afternoon.

The Power Grid World Tour is back for more in 2024! What new maps and countries will we see this year? Visit Australia, India and more to start, with many more to come at our our shows later this year.

Do you like Battletech? The Urbanmech Triathlon starts Saturday at 11 am and runs most of the day. 16 rounds of single-mech insanity, including some Alpha Strike in the evening.

If you're into RPGs Orccon welcomes Todd VanHooser back with his Laughing Moon crew, running a live session with audience participation, plus several other events.

Plus, the ultimate D&D PVP challenge is back! Fight to be the sole survivor as you hunt other players in an underground dungeon in this Player vs Player tournament. Create the best character OR monster you can from our rules. Score points for each hit point of damage you inflict. Combat is round-to-round. Character creation HELP available 1 hour prior to start.

For something completely different we have ... "Battle of the Bards - The Great Strategicon Karaoke Contest"
Calling all vocal virtuosos! We're bringing Karaoke back in a new room! Saturday, we'll be holding the Karaoke tournament at 9pm, so recruit a party to get that bardic inspiration and take home the win! Join us every night of Orccon to sing those blues away! 

We also will have our paint and take table running all day Saturday and Sunday. Learn to paint miniatures — all materials provided, including a figure to learn on.

Stay with us at the LAX Hilton! We currently have a few rooms available for every night of the show, but they are going fast. Reservations must be made by Thursday February 1 to get the convention rate.
