[Deptheads] Notes from the meeting today December 9th

One of the great success of Boardgamegeek.CON, which I attended last month,
was having the dealers right in a room with the open gaming. The dealers
(including Rio Grande, Z-Man, Fantasy Flight, Your Move Games and a number
of retailers) were THRILLED by this because people were constantly wandering
by between games rather than having to go to a separate location to shop.
Every one of them reported a huge jump in both sales and overall interaction
with the attendees.

When it was time for the dealer area to close, they put up the walls to
block off these portions of the room. I don't know if their walls are any
different than the walls that could be put up at the Radisson (BGG.CON was
at a Westin - not sure it is standardized even within chains) and I know at
a past meeting, there was some question as to whether the retailers will be
happy know the walls are up there instead of having the room locked. But
can't we consider this possibility and just inform the dealers? Could the
extra space be worth perhaps scheduling some late night event in there that
would include someone to watch out and make sure everything is okay
(LARPers, perhaps? They are up all night, right?) This would open up the
space for demos and other events in the cavernous room devoted to the dealer
area.
