[Deptheads] Convention Booklet

Folks,

The only problem is that people don't read the conbook. At the Feedback seminar all the people there said they just look at the schedules, and when I asked in the ballroom if people had looked at stuff other than the schedules everyone said no. We are in a limited time frame for people at the cons, so they want to maximize their fun. Posting schedules/special events will be one of the more effective ways to help people find things.

I'd hold off on spending any cash for a professional designer on the conbook. I mean, we all want changes but this isn't a serious issue worth throwing cash at, methinks. Let us give it a stab first. I'll put some time aside next month to try and reorganize it and send it out for comments.

Web sites: Kublcon's site is the best I've seen. I think spending some on that would be more worthwhile than spending anything on the conbook.

I will agree with you. Gen Con's site isn't too good I think. No "live" event listings...they post via excel spreadsheet you have to download. AWFUL design and not very friendly.

      Not really unfortunately.

GenCon's site should be much better and far more friendly. The Origins site is better, but feels a bit hokey. DunDraCon's site might as well be a BBS board from 1988. PolyCon has a nice clean site, but not notable. KublaCon is a good site - especially their game search engine.

I have not visited many con sites from Back East - anyone know of a good convention website worth emulating?

Rob — is there a site from another convention that you've seen and liked? Just curious if we can emulate.

We need to hire a professional designer and pay them money to create a template of a convention book we can use for future conventions. Preferably, we should hires someone who has designed con books for other types of shows.

I also think we need a GUI/graphics designer to work on the look of the website. We have good solid functions, but it is not interesting to look at. This will probably involve buying some art or getting some nice clipart.

I agree wholeheatedly. Now is the time to plan this. As I've now got direct control of producing this, I'd say we decide what we want to do. Chris, your digest just got longer ;-)
