[Deptheads] Miniature Feedback Received

I'm going this Saturday to the Socal GW League guys end of season
celebration and playoffs (the owners of the scgwl.com board) to talk with
them about hosting the Labor day weekend RTTs. Mike Garner, the owner of
the league, is very optimistic about running those RTTs. So the more I can
tell him about positive changes that are occurring, the more this will help.
As much as I like the Radisson basic layout, I have a hard time selling the
hotel to anyone. The hotel is crumbling around us, lights are burnt out,
atmospheric control is non-existent, elevators when they run require a
dedicated operator and while parking was adequate for 1000 people for the
weekend, it cannot handle more and we already know that it will not be
available this coming convention.
What is keeping us at this hotel this coming convention?? This is not the
dream convention location we hoped for. It's time for a divorce!
As Victor said, it's time to move, not next year, but now, before the roof
falls in!

Remember that it is very easy for attendees (especially disgruntled
attendees) to assume we are happy with the Radisson since we packaged this
as 'the homecoming' in our return to the Radisson. Not that we should not
have done that - we just need to come out and make sure we are communicating
that we are unhappy with the situation and doing something about it.
I don't think posting on our sleepy forums is enough. We should be spreading
out and posting on the boards for each department. Robyn or Jose should be
posting on this one, Patrick or Karl on the board game Yahoo Groups, Denys
on any RPG ones, Victor on CCGs, etc. Make sure people know who our leaders
are so they can pose questions to them rather than taking the word from any
idiot that feels like posting. The more they feel that the con leadership is
in control and solving the problems, the more confident attendees will feel.
Incidentally, this is one whiner's opinion and he's even misinformed. We
shouldn't ignore it but also we shouldn't freak out too much. A full scale
response and disclosure campaign would have been a good idea even if we
didn't see this note. Hopefully it will address that problem and prevent
others.

Agreed. The misstatements in that paragraph are a problem. They need to be
addressed sooner rather than later. Working on a post for the site now.
Adding a blog might be necessary.
I can add a staff blog to the forum if need be. While not everyone looks at
it, some people do and the word will get out.

need to fix the problem...but we also need to make sure people know we are
fixing it!

If the venue is bad, the con experience is bad even though we?ve taken their
money. These people don?t care if we sympathize with them. They want
results, they want to pay for a good con and, at this point, that means a
different venue.

news blogs or us posting on forums that ?we hate the hotel too!?. We just
need to move the con to a BETTER HOTEL.
