[Deptheads] Open Gaming

Actually, as a person whose only gaming at the Con this last time was open gaming, consider the fact that only 12-15 people were looking because the rest were playing wherever they could find a space. We also had people occasionally moving scheduled games to other places...like the bar. Seriously, pick-up games are happening, they just aren't easy or convenient for our congoers.

Also, the population of Open Gaming changes from year to year. When I
first started going to conventions in the 70s, Open Gaming was Open RPG almost
exclusively. In the 90s, Open Gaming was a huge part card games.
Recently, OG is mainly Boardgames and RPGs. There is a
realistic chance that if the D&D miniatures game takes off, a lot of OG will
be collectible miniatures and out Collectible room will be dedicated to
events.
I agree that compared to everything else, this is a "mouth sore."
Remember, the reason we only have 12 to 15 people looking for OG is because of
how shitty they have been treated by ALL conventions lately. they are
ALWAYS "what room we have left over." We have a chance to bring those
people back by showing them that they ARE a part of our convention. i am
not saying it is THE priority or even the 4th Priority at this point. I am
saying that if we can improve their situation and make it more friendly to their
needs, maybe those 100 people who played OG constantly will come back. Maybe
those 12 people who played V:TES all convention long will come back and do it
again. Maybe the people who came and played D&D for 72 hours straight
in OG will come back. Let's find out.
One thing we need to do is find someone to "run" an OG department.
Someone who will go to the boards and listen to what is being said or what is
needed for OG to become healthy again. Then we can address the situation
better.
Second, let's give it some space of it's own and mark it on the map so
people see we are taking reviving OG seriously. When that is seen, they
WILL start talking about it and we'll hear what we need to hear about it.
