Two suggestions.

1. Have someone keeping tabs on empty tables in boardgaming and miniatures? They could check with the department coordinators and allow those tables to be available for open gaming... They could be marked with a placard similar to the ones boardgaming uses to mark their tables. Every hour a volunteer could sweep the rooms if they spot open tables check with the room coordinators and designate the tables for open gaming for a specific time period.

2. Use the tables that are used for the flea market for open gaming once the flea market and any demo's are done. I say a lot of people using these tables at Gamex for card games, eating, etc. We could designate the hours those table were available and have the OG people check with boardgaming outside of those hours or when they are full (see #1).

John - since u seem the most passionate about Open Gaming (and that was a very inspiring post (I mean that sincerely)) - perhaps you should become Open Gaming Czar.

As for finding space, good luck. Boardgames are the convention equivalent of the Borg: we will all be assimilated. ;)

Also, the population of Open Gaming changes from year to year. When I first started going to conventions in the 70s, Open Gaming was Open RPG almost exclusively. In the 90s, Open Gaming was a huge part card games. Recently, OG is mainly Boardgames and RPGs. There is a realistic chance that if the D&D miniatures game takes off, a lot of OG will be collectible miniatures and out Collectible room will be dedicated to events. I agree that compared to everything else, this is a "mouth sore." Remember, the reason we only have 12 to 15 people looking for OG is because of how shitty they have been treated by ALL conventions lately. they are ALWAYS "what room we have left over." We have a chance to bring those people back by showing them that they ARE a part of our convention. i am not saying it is THE priority or even the 4th Priority at this point. I am saying that if we can improve their situation and make it more friendly to their needs, maybe those 100 people who pl!
ayed OG constantly will come back. Maybe those 12 people who played V:TES all convention long will come back and do it again. Maybe the people who came and played D&D for 72 hours straight in OG will come back. Let's find out. One thing we need to do is find someone to "run" an OG department. Someone who will go to the boards and listen to what is being said or what is needed for OG to become healthy again. Then we can address the situation better. Second, let's give it some space of it's own and mark it on the map so people see we are taking reviving OG seriously. When that is seen, they WILL start talking about it and we'll hear what we need to hear about it. John
