[Deptheads] Boardgames Query

a few quick comments
Suggestions follow a 2 exchange rule.
A suggestion is made and replied to. A follow up to the suggestion is made (usually asking why not) and the reply is given to that.
The same person continuing with replies at this point is them fighting to get their suggestion thru. Basically they do not accept the reasons given why the suggestion
cannot be used.
The response to this is usually "I do not have room for them but if you want them so badly you can make room for them in your department". What else can they say? They already said they didn't have room for them.
We overflowed last february and we didn't have an open gaming area nor several lockdown-overnight events that we will have now.
John and I know the RSI ladies personally and outside of strategicon. They are wonderful people with a fun product. I would love to see them at one of out cons if it fits their schedule and we have space for them. I can only suggest they be invited; if the dept. head says he cannot squeeze them in then either I squeeze them into my space or I move on to another topic.
All of us are working hard to make the convention better. In my opinion patrick is not saying boardgames is better than any other department. He isn't trying to get more space, he is holding on to what he has since he doesn't have enough. May and august are the cons for adding lots of stuff and juggling , not february con. Even larps were full last february.
If you have 100 people that are playing in boardgames it doesn't matter if you have 5 events with 20 people each or 20 events with 5 people each. The same amount of space is taken up.
I still want Janice to do a panel with some of our other staff that have extensive background with multiple game companies. Just a suggestion.
So everyone smile and cheer up. You have sunshine and good weather.
I am looking outside as I type this and I see freezing rain turning into snow tomorrow. You have warmth and sunshine. I have sleepy hollow and the weather to go with it.
Thank goodness we picked and pressed the last of the apples into cider sunday.
Only flames I want to see from now on are the ones from my stove/fireplace.
have a great week everyone.
Vic

It's not a flame war Mark,
Patrick has jumped all over two very reasonable suggestions and has been condescending and combative. If you object to the term I used...fine. Patrick I apologise for calling you an asshole. Perhaps I should have considered my words more carefully. However I stand by the rest of what I said.

Tim,
Your personal attack is unacceptable.
I do share frustration that Patrick seems to fight the inclusion of RSI. However, your stated goal of trying to make the convention better does NOT nor SHOULD NOT include the attack you just leveled. The only way to get the convention better is for us to work together. Of course we will have disagreements as to the best way to do so, but they are just that, disagreements not some call to battle or flame-war.
Find a better way of communicating your concerns so we can make the cons a better place.
Mark.

Patrick,
Is being an asshole a requirement for running boardgames or does it just come naturally to you? Either way you excel at it.
My goal is to make the convention as a whole better. This departmental fiefdom bullshit needs to stop. Each department SHOULD be working towards the goal of improving the con. You need to be an advocate for your department, but you also need to remember YOU are your department are not the convention. Anything that increases one department but hurts another isn't good for the con as a whole. The idea is to get more people into the venue, which generates more revenue and allows a better venue, etc...
I remember RSI...I liked the energy they had and think they would be a good addition to the con. Putting them in open gaming (which is where I recall them being seems like a good idea). If you disagree, ok...lets figure a place to put them. You comments were uncalled for and not productive. Is there some personal reason you don't want RSI at Orccon...And remember, open gaming is for all games... not just open boardgaming
I am curious though...can you explain how you would need the same number of tables and amount of room if you had 6 events versus 30 between 9a - 11p?

Tim,
We have the same number of people whether we have 30 or 6 events going fom 9am to 11pm.
If you want them so bad, let's put them in the computer room, you can make room for them by just adjusting the hours the people working get to play, right?

Patrick,
I realize that, but I think if we spread the events out...beginning earlier and ending later rather then concentrating during the peak ten to two time slots we will be able to get more out of our existing tables and make better use of the room we have available..

Tim,
This is our biggest con of the year, Boadrgames overflowed big time last year, and if we can not have them at this con, but at another con, Then they become a special attraction for that con, and we get 4-5 extra tables.

Oh yeah...I remember who they are, I just never knew them by that name...
Nice thing about them, by virtue of how they operate, you can generate an accurate list of how much interest they generate. We should stick them in the corner in open gaming...I think they would be a good draw...
Wait...someone said we don't have room for them? Why is that?
