[Deptheads] Gabriel's Pacificon after-con report

Email campaign with pacificon is like Ben and Jerry showing up to a mom and dad ice cream store, dancing in their face, then telling them "you got served".
Pacificon is at the bottom climbing up. They are getting better. They are on email list just like us now talking about the bad points of gateway and what they can do to get people to come north. Emphasize what we do not offer- parking, kids programming, individual comfy rpg rooms, nice hotel.
They are trying to catch us. Same if a new convention started. They won't concede we are better- they will keep clawing at us.
We need to ignore the yapping little dog and be more like the quiet big dog.
A superior run convention will speak for itself.

I agree, we need to stay on target by running superior conventions, and refraining from " cheesy email campaigns ".

I concur, a 2nd rate con is not our target, KublaCon is. But we beat them with being superior, not by cheesy email campaigns. His boardgames area sucked, did not have GM's, and had a 3rd rate library to replace Gm run games.

I hope we are not planning to be as petty as he is by trying to "compete" with mondo. - Heather

I spoke with my friends tonight. Other than perhaps a slight
exaggeration in the number of participants (my friends said it was
probably closer to 1,000), his report is a fairly accurate description
of the convention. The facilities are mostly great, there was a lot
of energy and enthusiasm at the con, etc. etc. etc. The one negative
report was that the dealers weren't very happy, because the layout of
the hotel is such that there isn't a good central location for the
dealer room.
