If we could get someone to shoot some videos of the con that would be nice
to have...downloadable videos of highlights of each area maybe?

Ok, we're going to need some help. We need to get publicity out. We need
to get the web site updated. Tanya has no time and I have very little. So
volunteers are needed. Tasks in no particular order:
1) FIX THE FORUM. Requires advanced php skill that I don't have to do it
efficiently
2) Add news articles. We have one from Neil. Someone needs to make sure it
gets to Tanya and added to the news feed if nothing else
3) get the mail blurbs out -- This I think we can handle
4) get event up on the site. If we bury them in events this might be over
with quickly.
5) get the special events/guests pages up. We just need the content
6) Update the web site. Flash is bad, and it's not just the Apple person
in me saying that. It crashes, it doesn't work on mobile browsers worth a
darn, and it's slooooooow. A design tweak is to the front would be good. A
radical change isn't practical
7) Get the Radisson on board with things. I'll try.
8) Add new web pages. Anyone know php, html and sql well enough to put a
web page together? If you do, you can be a big help. Tanya cannot do it
alone.
Yes, we need to be on a war footing. They haven't been paying attention to
what we've been doing since it appears May last year, our low point for
miniatures. They are taking on our board games and rpgs as well -- we need to
lock in commitments on these ASAP, though RPGs will be hard due to the
venue.

I completely and totally agree about our PUBLIC stance. I would also
suggest that in publicity and public statements, that we generally ignore them.
The last thing we need to do is help publicize them by talking about them!
That being said, INTERNALLY we need to be on a war footing. Their
scheduling against us is an undisguised declaration of war. No matter how
diplomatic we were/are/want to be/want to look, we do not want to "lose" or let
their aggression and animosity pay off.
As far as the segment of gamers out there with wildly deluded expectations
of what a game convention is capable of being, we can only do our best for
the widest segment of gamers, and hope they come to their senses. Not much
else can be done.
Regarding "merging": that is likely their plan all along, in a backhanded
way. Force us to concede Labor Day weekend to them; give up. Of course,
then, in a year or two - surprise! - it's their President's Day con and then
their Memorial Day con.
"Never give in — never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small,
large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.
Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of
the enemy." - Winston Churchill

I would suggest that our response to their confrontational tone should be
one of reconciliation. They are selling this Convention based on the
negatives that Strategicon carries over from the past management. In my
opinion, some of those are deserved and most of them are based on people
not understanding how difficult running a convention with mostly volunteer
labor is. Some people pay $40 for a four day event and expect $72 dollar
per
day Disneyland level service, and even Disneyland has people who hate it.
Since their tone is confrontational, a confrontational response from us
will
just play into their hand. I would like to merge their future into ours, or
at least get them set up on another weekend. I don't know if it's possible,
given their attitude, but it would work better than having two groups
fighting over scraps while Blizzard Con is selling out 15,000 seats at the
Anaheim Convention Center in 40 minutes at $125 a ticket.
