Hey Eric,
To me it is important to make sure that all the semi-finalists come from a single player pool. To allow any flexibility in this means opening up to competitor complaint at the very least. Players want to be able to say they were judged fairly.
As for the timing issues, I'm less concerned about three hours of play on Saturday and Sunday than I would be about six hours of play on Saturday. Also, according to the rules players who lose on the first day might still have a very good shot at winning an entry into the semi-finals. I grumbled a bit when I had to continue in the Ticket to Ride event last year with no chance of winning. The chances here are much better!
When it comes to player distraction, yes players might want to change it up some. However this is a special event with very high stakes. At least we are only asking for three early-ish hours of the day for the preliminary rounds. If you still think that is too much of a commitment, then we should contact Mayfair and find out how flexible their round times are.
What's important here is that we are completely clear with everyone what they can expect from this event. I'm not sure what information has been available so far. I'd like to draft an email once this is all figured out.
Thanks again for your patience.
twenty-three-skidoo,
Neil Figuracion
