Actually, I was going to suggest going to the 50 gallon rolling containers
that we now use for Plus Ten To Awesome equipment. They are on rollers,
solid, and lockable = about $60 each at Home Depot.

If I may make a suggestion - any cardboard boxes still being used to carry
Con supplies should be retired in favor of soft-lockable plastic crates.
They generally run ~$10 at any Hardware store (or Fry's), and would nearly
eliminate the possibility of a box coming apart while being moved.

Some people got lax and the new people coming in didn't know. We needed a
quartermaster for quite some time.
Volunteers are sent to pick up stuff for a dept. and grab what looks
right. Most stuff is not marked. The 4 boxes for collectables, 1 for miniatures,
several for registration, and 3 containers for boardgames are the only
ones marked and sealed. There is much more than that and it's all unmarked. If
it isn't marked and sealed it may be grabbed by mistake. A quartermaster
will make sure all boxes are marked when dropped off, all non-boxed items
are marked, and everything is picked up by right dept. AND everything is
retured to be loaded on monday (like fans).........and I will tell you right
now I won't miss unloading the truck thursday night, Eric N. won't miss
loading it, and Eric A. won't miss loading it, unloading it, then loading it
again monday (triple duty). Hurray for getting a quartermaster.

All this stuff going missing illustrates the need for someone who's sole
job is dealing with all our stuff. It would be a senior staff position with
a lot of authority, and almost all the work could be done pre/end con, so
the individual could game to their hearts content.

Requirements:

1. Driver's license and the ability to drive large vehicles.
2. Excellent organization skills.
3. Physically fit enough to handle the rigors of load in/out.
4. Local to the greater L.A. area

Duties

Inventory our equipment. Should be checked when loading in and loading out.
Arrange transport of the equipment on late Thursday/early Friday to the
con.
Arrange transport of the equipemnt on mid Monday from the con.
Arrange storage facilities to store said equipment.

The ideal candidate would be an ex supply sergeant type.

Obviously, they'd have access to volunteers to help load/unload during the
show.

We need someone sooner rather than later, and they will have to be local
(many of our problems stem from the fact I have to handle a large chunk of
these duties).

If anyone wants this job or knows of some who might, let me know ASAP.

Eric

"Would you like another drink, sir?" asked the bartender.
"I think not," replied Descartes, and promptly vanished.
