Actually, I was just thinking if people wanted info on a specific con, there's a page for it. My brain's very overloaded at the moment, so I know I'm just rambling. I have to re-read your email, Ryan, for full comprehension. :)

If I may share some experience from the automotive industry: It's much harder to build several brands (Orccon, Gamex, Gateway) than it is to build a single brand (Strategicon). I know in the past folks have wanted to present the three cons as unrelated to avoid people "catching the next one", but we are tripling the work we need to do to build reputation and brand awareness. For the attendees that are not already aware that the three cons are related (I'm guessing 1/3 of attendees), they don't take a well-run Orccon to be a good indicator that Gamex will also be well-run, for instance, which is a lost opportunity.
So, my suggestion is to reconsider the notion that we promote the cons as unrelated, rather than a series, particularly before Kryssie does a lot of great work that would need to be undone.

What if we were to make pages for the three conventions? I'm toying around with the ideas in my brain, but I know there's Wiki entries for them which show up on Facebook (at least for Gamex). It's not something that will happen *RIGHT NOW* since, y'know, GAMEX! But, I just keep forgetting to mention this and since I was thinking about it, thought I'd say something. Burgess, you and I could discuss this at some point this weekend. I'm sure you'll find me pretty easily....

I will cede not making it a page, then. I don't have all the time in the world and it just occurred to me today that I will be working on my Master's thesis around the time of Gateway.... so, I may be a bit...mmm...what's the word.... crazy? Stressed? Meh. Whatever. :D I'll e-mail you, privately, then for access to the profile.

Kryssie,
It's up to you but I still think the move to a Page is more hassle than it is worth - the statistics are the only real reason I see to do it and they are okay but with all that content, it's a heck of a lot of work. BGB has a page and it is fine but posting is wonky sometimes. I think Facebook has a way to go before Pages are perfect.
Most of the reasons to move to a Page listed below don't look to be strong.
* I'd note that the Strategicon Twitter account already hits the Facebook page but not vice versa. It can be set up although I know Twitter is having trouble consuming Facebook images right now due to some change they made in the format in which they are stored. That works the same in Pages or Friends (I can guarantee that as my Page isn't updating Twitter right now).
* Friends are not limited to 500. We have nearly 1,000 on Facebook right now.
* It's easy to just give the Facebook login to multiple people. We've done that before.
* There is no difference in tagging a page versus a person unless the person has their privacy settings restricted (we don't).
You're totally right that it SHOULD be a Page because of the type of organization but, functionally, all we get at are the statistics right now for a heck of a lot of work. And you lose some things like the data intimacy of Friends. For example, I often log into the Strategicon account and wish people a Happy Birthday from the convention. They almost always Like the post and we often get a bunch of additional followers that saw that on their wall. Pages won't get that access because they are gain less access to information than relatively open-access Friends information. This is also a communication issue because people tend to allow their Friends to send messages and invite them to events and groups but they are less likely to allow that access to Pages. Thus, we lose something (I would say, a fair amount) just to get those statistics.
Just my two cents. Do as you see fit. I'm glad someone else will help with the social onslaught (and I completely agree with all the points about Twitter). On Google Plus, I'd say that if that effort is to get Wil Wheaton more involved, sure. Otherwise, it's a dying network already.

After the meeting today, I realized I'd volunteered myself (go me >_<) to take over the social media (Twitter, etc). To this end, I'm gonna need some help. I have one person who's going to work on the G+ page, and, if Victor's still willing, help move stuff from the profile page we have on Facebook to an actual Page.
The reasons I'd like to push for the move on Facebook are as follows:
I can link the FB feed to the Twitter account, and vice versa. In other words, I can make ONE update to BOTH accounts;We can have way more likes than we can friends. Friends are limited to 500, I believe; likes are unlimited (or, at least limited to something like 1M);
We can have a couple responsible admins for a page (I know this eliminates half the staff, but hey!);People can easily tag a page and share, etc, making it more community focused; Now! As for the Twitter feed. We want to get as much information out to people in 120 characters or less (I'll explain in a minute). Ideally, I'd like to have your information in 80 characters or less, but I understand longer tweets may be necessary. I understand that the actual tweet limit is 140 characters--HOWEVER! We want people to retweet (RT) us; we want to use hashtags (#); all these will take up characters. RT @Strategicon is already 14 characters. If we add hashtags like #Gamex2012, #Gamex #rpgs #boardgames, etc, we're taking up more characters. Hashtags, for the twitter noobs, are for people to search by. They also can become trending topics. It's all a wonderfully huge marketing thing and can get pretty technical. Let's just say, "They're important." SO! All of that having been said, I can actually schedule the tweets to go out during the convention so I nor anyone else needs be tied to their electronic device of choice. But, in order to do that, I need your information ahead of time. You can e-mail me at phantom.hopscotch at gmail.com with your department's information for the convention and when you want the tweets to go out. AT the convention, if something comes up you want tweeted, text me at 310-766-9954 and I'll do it as quickly as I can.
If the Facebook and Twitter accounts are linked, it's one update for two social media sites! There'd be an extra step to get it onto G+, but we can make that work (especially if I can find an app that plays with all three nicely).
Also... did we want to continue the TweetUp thing for Gamex? Or should that be an Orccon exclusive?
